He grins at her encouragement, nodding quickly. He knows he will. He's been improving steadily already. He just hopes he has it ready for the next monster at this point.

"I don't know. I guess I assumed it's random," he says thoughtfully, glancing up from his hands for just a moment. "It's useful, but, uh, a shield doesn't really work with my particular skill set."
