I'll keep it in mind isn't a complete rejection, so Garrot is filing that away as a solid Win. But then there's that awkward pause, that clear indicator that oh no, it's weird between them again, and-

"Really? Have-" He blinks, shaking his head slightly in disbelief. "Do you really not know this? My kids are from all over and they know!" But then Garrot places a hand upon the bridge of his nose and just chuckles.

"Yes, it's asking for a hug." A sigh. "Jeez, we gotta get you like a- a phrasebook or something." He's trying to be upbeat and jovial and helpful because things have turned around, for what it's worth. And then the arm goes back out to The Hug Position.
