Well this is heavy. Before Garrot has even finished, he feels himself reaching up and setting a hand on the other's back. He hesitates there for a moment... before giving in to his impulse, and rubbing gently against him. He gets it. Mostly. Wanting to shield your kids from something difficult is certainly an impulse he can relate to, but not like this. Not about this. There is a cruel bit of him, deep down in his chest, that says he ought to remind Garrot that he'll die someday no matter what.

That goes completely ignored, of course, but it still takes him several moments in this tense silence to come up with something better. He won't be cruel in that way, but he's also not going to be pointlessly optimistic. He'd love to tell Garrot that nothing will happen to him, but that just isn't true. He takes a long, slow breath in through his nose, sighing deeply before he finally breaks the silence.

"They would have each other. They would make it through."
