If Joanna's being honest with herself, she's undecided whether that's a disappointment or a relief. The idea of a glowing stone that she could take with her, a light source that wouldn't risk draining her cellphone's power, was pretty appealing... as was the more idealistic, childish idea that the stone would be important, significant, a key to solving the situation they've all woken to.
But this answers a little bit of the question she asked - the glow is from the rift, somehow. And with it reverting to ordinary stone means there's no reason to take it with her, so she won't be carrying around a rock glowing with a potentially harmful force.
Joanna floats the stone back roughly to the ground it came from, and backs away in search of other mysteries and hints of what's happening.
