It's hard for her to know how much of any of this monster's sketched claims to take seriously... Whether there's a deeper meaning to this monster's presence that she just isn't asking after the right way... But there's at least one other question she can simply ask.
"We aren't going to need to... fight - today - are we?"
If this monster is today's monster, she's going to have a difficult time fighting, even after so short a conversation as this.
