He watches her confusion, watches her work through it, and then she asks an existential question followed by an easier question. If he'd known she was wondering if he had rights he'd sit down and discuss that matter too, but as it stood he had to answer 'why' after if he was told to. He scritches away on the etch-a-sketch again and flips it out towards her with his new answer:
