The thing about a badly thrown axe is that it's not moving very quickly in its arc. It wobbles in the air, but he's been trained in lots of weapons and he can see where its going to be even as he notices their retreat.

He grunts softly, takes a step forward, and by the time she's reaching down to grab her next toy, he has thrown the axe back and it slams into the water beside her. "I don't want to fight you!" he says, but he's moving with purpose, his bow still extended to deflect whatever else she might try to throw at him in the meantime.
