"I was tracking one of the Wizard's accomplices, but I wasn't expecting it to make it to your vessel so quickly!" They're still a distance away, but he nonetheless produces a business card from his jacket in an infinitely-practiced motion. "If it doesn't return your boat, please allow me to compensate you. Actually, even if it does, I cn at least cover the fuel costs."
In part, he actually does feel a tad guilty about the situation. More than that, though, he's just trying to project the image of having the situation under control...
