Day 6: Morning
Morning: 6:00am - 12:00noon
[ IRL Timeframe: October 31st - NovemberIn the typically quiet town of Craydon, most residents know that the beach is only a short walk away from the train station at the base of the mountainous region they live in. They've constructed a long wooden path out to the edge of the sandy area, with a number of benches available for any residents. Typically there are a handful of locals either walking, relaxing, fishing, or ocean watching on this normally quiet and uneventful beach. But today, at sunrise, the Wizard and the Protector are on the beach. The Wizard has made short work of sending everyone away but a few have remained to post it to social media.
It's a stalemate, for the most part. For every blow one flings, the other parries it. For every shout, there's one in return. Most unsettling, however, is that they're arguing in a language that isn't native to this world.
Far Haven isn't having an uneventful morning but it is having a quiet morning. The Hospital is looking better after the events of Day 5, the front doors are now available for use and a construction team is hard at work undoing the damage that had been done the previous day. It's definitely not fixed yet, but it's clearly on the way.
That isn't the big event that's drawing people's attention, though. Six, today's monster, has borrowed a chair from inside the hospital's lobby and placed it in the courtyard right outside the front doors. He can be found sitting, one leg propped up over the other and showing off one of the cowboy boots he's wearing, with a clipboard leaned up on his leg. Two of his arms are sitting on the armrests, casually drumming like he's impatient. Two more arms are folded across his front, and the last two arms are holding and writing on the clipboard. His yellow skin is bright as the sunlight hits him, but he's clearly ready for the sun with a pair of aviator sunglasses covering his eyes. Are there multiple eyes under there? He's wearing a cowboy hat with a white bandana around his neck and thick hair(?) bound up in a ponytail dangling off the back of the chair. This monster's a cowboy!
Oh, and there's a huge double-headed axe propped up against his chair. Can't forget that, that's scary.
Bamborough is a strange blend of eventful and not. The Child's boat is back and social media has made no secret of where they headed: Breakfast. The Bamborough Diner, a staple location in the tourist town, has been serving them meal after meal all morning. They're on their sixth meal, stuffing pancake after pancake into their mouth. They've been using the diner's picture-filled menu to order item after item and they haven't repeated one yet. It's time to EAT!
But with all this happening, surely the heroes won't be up to anything else? There's definitely no reason why the Wizard has suddenly chose to go toe-to-toe with the Protector this morning, right? No way, no how.
There's definitely a reason.
The Weather
- A little foggy.
- 55°F / 13°C
- Uh, grab a jacket, it's actually chilly.
Prompts:

The heroes can try to get close, but they'll eventually find a barrier in their way. Is your hero here? Are they talking to others? Is there anything they can do? Or do they know more about what's happening than they've told others?- 07:00am Harsen Island Regional Hospital, Far Haven: Far Haven isn't having an uneventful morning but it is having a quiet morning. “I’ve made some shit choices, honestly.” He continues. “But I changed.”
no subject
"NO."
This time, their voice hits like a knife. The raw anger is clear as day in their voice. It takes them a few moments with their fists gripped tight before they relax back against the seat and speak again. The anger is still there in the back of their thoughts, but it isn't bleeding into their words this time.
" Ecq sef qu sefaqraj ajfi ajcifi. Ecq qu feniv ci ecq aj fen."
"He only wants control over others. He will leave you all for dead."
no subject
"What..." he starts, but stops again to gather his thoughts. "But what kind of control is he getting from this? Why would he leave us for dead if that's his goal, anyway? A pile of corpses isn't much to rule over."
no subject
If his intentions were good, he would've reversed course year 2. They lean forward again, eyes locked on Luka. The gaze almost has a weight to it, an unmistakable intensity even faced with his blindness.
"Ciivjim xal aj fius iv. Ciusiv firaus qu sefiv xal aj quiv. Qu ecqiv iv qu usecqra aj feniv."
"14 days to suppress me. 351 days to himself. I have felt him readying to leave."
They growl out the words, a sharpness to them this time that feels like they're ready to go kill him right now.
no subject
"This is all so beyond me." He says. He props one elbow onto the table, holding his head in his hand. "It's you he wants to control?"
no subject
"Yes. He already has all of you controlled."
[ They answer immediately, watching Luka's responses still. ]
no subject
Luka sighs again and pushes his plate away, half-eaten sandwich sitting unloved.
"Even though I know he would kill me without a second thought if he knew. But..." Luka hesitates, but he can't seem to stop his words from coming. "Well, I've been on his side. He supported me, or he said he did. He's never made a move against me, and it would feel wrong to betray him."
no subject
They sit, watching him, listening to him, and when he's done they really don't know why he told them that. Sorry, Luka, they're not going to sympathize in this moment. Instead, they're going to make sure they understand his vague point.
"Aj ci aqr aj aqr qu ivaqrxal ci qura?"
"So you need to see him betray you first?"
He'll be able to pick up on the incredulous tone in their voice as they ask it.
no subject
"I have more reason to trust him than not." He says, gritting his teeth in frustration. "I could easily just go back to hanging on his every word, doing as I'm told and cutting down your monsters in the street."
Luka's fist is clenched in his lap. Perhaps speaking to this Child was best handled by someone else. He considers getting up and leaving it at this, but knows that wouldn't leave the best impression.
no subject
"Ajxal."
"Okay."
They say it like they're fine if he does that? What a weird response. But then they follow with:
"Us aj ci aqr qu aj ivaqrxal ci?"
"How do you need him to betray you?"
no subject
He sinks back into his chair.
“I thought you wanted help. You’re as stubborn as he is, aren’t you?”
no subject
"Qujim Qu feniv, ecqus ci ajra aj raaj iv?"
"When I leave, are you going to stop me?"
They radiate confusion, unsure of how Luka is about to respond next.
"Ecq qu fen iv ecqfum. Ecq qu iv fen. Cifiiv qu aj sefiv aj sqifiecqiv quci."
"He will seal me again. She will be dead. There is no one to cooperate with."
no subject
no subject
"Iv ci qu."
"Yes you can."
And then, the baffling question. How are they sure things will play out that way?
" Qu' aj fi ecq ajcifi ajqura ecqus ecq."
"I'm not but the other possibilities are bad."
no subject
"And what about the possibility that we somehow all come to an agreement? I know you're going to say it would never happen but humor me for a bit."
no subject
"Aqqu, quiv ciajiv fiaj."
"Ships, like those two."
And then they set their hands on the table, their fingers clacking against the surface.
"Quaj qu icqajra ecq ecqusivjim."
"Who is proposing the agreement."
no subject
"Well... it's Gyre's idea, mostly, but I don't know if he's terribly committed to including the Protector like I am. We talked about it. Do you know Gyre?"
Luka shows his neglected sandwich some love again, waiting for the Child's response.
no subject
"There are two on this shell. Take one."
They answer like it's as straightforward as they make it sound. Now Luka has the answer, so he has no excuse not to. But then they pause as they seem to realize something about the answer to his next question.
"Qu us "Gyre". Qu ecqiv ecq mur fenqu us. Qu qu ajiv quci iv, qu ecq qu, qujim Qu feniv."
"I know "Gyre". I have a new plan now. Any can come with me, if they want, when I leave."
no subject
“And why did remembering Gyre change your plan?” Luka takes a long sip from a glass of water. “I know the man can be quite convincing but that’s a sudden change.”
no subject
"Don't know. I can only feel them. They are not small."
They're curious why he made the connection he did, so they decide to shoot that coincidence out of the sky.
"Ajfumqujimiv. Qu cicijim aj ecq fenqu ivsqi aj ci."
"Coincidence. I thought of the plan because of you."
no subject
He sets his glass down with a satisfying clink on the table.
"You thought of it because of me? What did I do?"
no subject
But that second question they do have an answer to.
"Ci icqajiv ciecq Qu sefqufi ecq ecq ajqura. Qu ivqu aj usecqiv ecq sqi ajqu."
"You proposed that I consider all bad possibilities. I decided to create a good possibility."
...
Apparently Sxicq missed the class in kindergarten about telling others their ideas were bad. Because that's kinda what that sounds like. Sorry Luka.
no subject
"So... we can go with you to the Protector and the Wizard's original planet. And if it's destroyed, you can mend it." Luka repeats back, trying to sort everything out. "To be honest, the idea of that scares the shit out me."
He idly stirs his drink with a straw.
"Hey... should I call you 'the Child'? That's what everyone calls you, but you said you aren't one, so... do you have a proper name? Or a title?"
no subject
And he can understand them, which makes him more weird.
Luka you're weird.
"Iv. Ciecq qu aa fenqu."
"Yes. That is my plan."
They don't acknowledge him saying it scares the shit out of him. Instead, they answer the question he follows it with:
"Sxicq" (Zzih-k)
no subject
"Sxicq." Luka copies their pronunciation. "That's your name? Mine's Luka, if you didn't already know that."
The waiter comes around to refill water and take their plates, and Luka uses that moment to order himself a massively over-sized sundae. It's probably for a table of people to share, but that's irrelevant.
"Awhile ago, I was able to access magic that came from under the ground. I used it to set a monster on fire. Was that you? Who made that happen?"
