Day 8: Evening
Evening: 5:00pm - Midnight
[ IRL Timeframe: April 1st - April 15th, 2020 ]The light rain has changed into a downpour, coating the island, its forests, and its people in a constant barrage of water. After the events of the afternoon, it's like it's all being washed away.
Except it isn't, because the events of the day all happened. They're all real. And social media is abuzz about the loss of Harsen Island's mountain. Now, it's all just flat. There are forests, but Craydon is no longer a mountain-side town. Instead, they have a cog train that rolls horizontally across the flat ground from the main train station and over into their very flat town in the woods. Bamborough's hillside hotels with dozens of floors higher up for an ocean view are now down with the rest of the buildings, and only the highest floors can see out over the touristy area to the water. Far Haven, in contrast, has barely changed. You can't flatten something that's already flat. The only textures left on the island are the silver humps of two ships, one near Far Haven and the other near Bamborough. There's also a hump at the center, the cave entrance, leading down into the cave where the bodies were. For anyone who goes to look, there's a new body there now.

The participants in the fight against "Eight" put up a valiant fight, eventually defeating it in a show of heroic justice somewhere along the tracks. In all the rain, its yellowed body is disappearing away into the ground as it washes away.

Sxicq is... somewhere. The internet lost them again. Wherever they're at, it's not out on the surface of the island.
- [3] -
The monsters, meanwhile, have returned back to their home in the garden. At least, the ones who seem to live there.
Five and Six are in their rooms on the main floor with the doors open. Five is laying on her bed, tacking away on her flip phone. Six is in his room, sitting on the edge of the bed, also on his phone. If there's anyone in Four's room, it's unknown due to the closed door. Also on the main floor is the Wizard. She's casually sitting in one of the more plain of the thirteen chairs, reading an unnamed book. There's a steaming mug of cocoa on the coffee table in front of her.
On the second floor, Ten's room is the only one open. The doors for Seven, Nine, and Twelve are all shut. If anyone heads in to look for Ten, they'll find him writing in a small notebook with the title "Chef Notes" on the front.
On the top floor, Eight's door is shut but has a small "Text me" sign dangling off of the handle.

If anyone goes looking for the newly surfaced space ships, all they'll find is the smooth metallic surfaces of them rounding out of the terrain. If there's a way in, it's not obvious to others
The Weather
- Heavy rain.
- 59°F / 15°C
- A constant wind.
Prompts:
- 5:00pm Onward: Monster House, The Garden: For any heroes who are up for meeting any of the monsters, this is their opportunity. Some closed doors will have no one behind them, but the open doors are a guaranteed someone to talk to. Will they talk to the monsters, each other, or the Wizard downstairs in the sitting area?
- 5:00pm Train Station, All cities: All trains have been suspended, citing the "unknown conditions of the island's tracks" after the events of the day. No one is allowed to ride the rails, no one is allowed to go anywhere. Is your hero trapped at a train station waiting for an uber? Does another hero come to their rescue? What's the deal?
- ?:00pm General Post, Anywhere: Does your character go to investigate things around the island? Do they meet with other heroes somewhere over coffee? How are they handling being cut off from the world? Their family? Their loved ones? How do they feel seemingly being made the enemy of all people of the world?
Procedure:
Reply to the appropriate toplevel comments for events below. Indicate if a post is a private conversation with "Private" in the subject otherwise all threads should be open to interaction with others. Plan OOCly how you'd like to toss everyone around.
OOC Mortality Warning: Any hero who actively seeks out the Protector IC will be at a high risk of death in some manner. He is on the move, tread carefully!

"If we had done it earlier, we would have been found out. The curtain couldn't be pulled back until we were ready to act." They explain, turning then to Luka and his further questions.
"It isn't. But I hope it will be, when the dust finally settles." They answer, a note of longing in their voice.
no subject
So he turns his attention to Eleven again, his eyes going to the shining necklace that Luka is talking about. A disguise? They sounded like they wanted it to be their true form though. Strange.
"Wouldn't it have been better to be found out? If the world knew about you, then maybe things could have been different?" he asks, fully assuming that he doesn't have all the information here. He's really just looking for the full picture, not intending to accuse them of anything.
no subject
"I hope it will be, too." He says. If Eleven wanted to appear in whatever way they did now, Luka hopes they can achieve that. "Why do you need to use magic to change your form, though?"
He's interested in the answer to Gyre's question as well - the phrasing Eleven had answered with seemed oddly particular and raised more than a few questions.
no subject
Especially since now the conversation was shifting away from it.
"We saw the results of trying that." They start to explain, pausing as they consider the weight of what they're saying.
"This has a chance to keep the most people alive by the end." They continue, turning to Luka as he follows up with another question.
"It is effortless to maintain my form like this. So long as I have the crystal, I remain disguised."
no subject
"You saw? What do you mean?" he murmurs, his brow furrowing as he hopes for some decent explanation for once.
no subject
"Is there... something wrong with your undisguised form, though?" He asks carefully, clearly choosing words as he speaks. It still comes out sounding kinda bad though, and he cringes accordingly.
no subject
"The answer to that is too difficult to explain before tomorrow, but I promise you will understand." They start, turning to glance at a fish in the pond that's peeking out of the water at them.
"You'll see my form tomorrow. But I just prefer this one. Fitting through doorframes helps."
no subject
For just a moment, he imagines the Wizard acting as a sole parent to these twelve beings and he almost laughs. Whoever heard of single parents!! She can't have possibly done it on her own!
"Will we be able to come back here tomorrow? We... We were planning to make an announcement to the world, the way he did," he says, glancing over to Luka as if expecting him to confirm the plan.
no subject
He's nodding as Gyre explains the plans they had made, though the reminder of the Protector knots his stomach.
"We have to figure out a way to do that. We can't just let everyone think we've turned our backs on them." He confirms, his tone growing more serious. "Seven said we're going back in the past, but we have messes in the present that demand our attention too."
no subject
"Big in a different way, but still big." They clarify, before moving on to another reassurance.
"Your time in the past will not be as long as it was before, Nine will make arrangements for the broadcast."
no subject
"I need a way to stop the Protector from coming after us. A stronger shield," he says, a clear hope in his voice.
no subject
"Oh? Do you know how long?" Their previous dip into time travel had taken the whole day, sure, but Luka felt like he had gotten very little answers in that time - if any. "Hopefully long enough to get everything done, you know?"
He nods along at Gyre's inquiry about his shield, listening for Eleven's response. Having increased security from anything the Protector might try to pull on them was vital.
"I should probably write up a statement for our announcement. There's so much to say." He adds warily.
no subject
"A few hours at most, the sun will not have set yet before you return." They offer, pausing for a moment--
"You may not have enough time to write and announce. It may be better to write it tonight." They explain, before turning to Gyre and rummaging in a pocket to pull out a small black cube.
"Nine made this for you. I can make it permanent tomorrow, if you like it." They offer, holding out the little cube. It looks alarmingly like the stacks and stacks of black cubes sitting in Nine's room, but much smaller. It's a little bigger than a sugar cube. At least the corners aren't too sharp.
"You have to eat it."
no subject
The black cube is not what he expected, but his thoughts immediately go to the objects in Nine's room. Some experiment that she's done? He blinks at it, then up at Eleven, a question clear on his face.
"What is it?" he murmurs, offering a hand out to take the little cube. He wants to look at it first before he sticks it in his body please.
no subject
He can discern that Eleven is addressing Gyre merely by the change in their volume as they turn, but without much context, Luka isn't sure if he too is being instructed to eat whatever it is Nine made.
So he's relieved when Gyre asks what, exactly, it is. At least Luka isn't the only one out of the loop here.
"And what will it do?" He adds. These are valid questions. Nothing good happens when you eat something mysterious without knowing what it is!
no subject
"If it works, it's a magic condenser." They say first, leaving it hanging for a moment as they plop the cube into Gyre's palm before explaining further.
"Think of it like a magic battery you can tap into." They add, glancing back and forth between Gyre and Luka.
"Nine is working on one for you too, Luka."
no subject
"What does that mean?" he asks dryly, even as he pops the cube into his mouth, rolling it around on his tongue before he tries to swallow.
no subject
"For me?" Eleven's addendum catches Luka by surprise. His own use of magic had been haphazard at best, and it had always felt like something out of his control. Though it had never backfired on him yet, Luka's unsure if amplifying something he barely understood how to use was the best idea.
"I guess we need all the additional power we can get." He says, his uncertainty hinted in his demeanor. "But I've never been so great with magic."
no subject
Eleven gives an 'Mmhmm' in response to Luka's "for me?" before looking the two over.
"You don't have to be good at magic." They answer first, looking first to Luka before looking at Gyre.
"Make a shield. You'll feel the power. Use it."
[ Gyre unlock: Shield (Power+, Size+, Durability+, Stress-) ]
no subject
"Okay," he murmurs, and uh. And then there's a shiny shield hanging in the air in front of him, and he actually gasps a little. His eyes widen, his expression brightening. There's a clear smile in his voice, "It's so much easier."
He gives a slight twitch of his brow, changing the shape of the bubble with no effort at all. It's perfect. Or well. It will be perfect as long as, "Will it be able to hold the Protector back?"
no subject
"The only one who can make it stronger is Sxicq." They explain, folding their arms and looking thoughtful--
"I don't know if we're on speaking terms yet."
no subject
"I bet Sxicq would do it." Luka notes. "You'd just have to ask Eight to contact them first."
He can't help but wonder what Eleven's last comment is in reference to. Had Eleven done something in particular to spite Sxicq?
"Not on speaking terms, huh?" He adds, unable to resist. "What did you do?"
no subject
He nods slightly to the princess' question though, curious about any conflicts that might exist between all of them. Not that he has a lot of time to deal with said conflict. He needs to be ready by tomorrow!
"Do you know where they are?" he asks quickly, dropping his shield finally and looking out at the garden. Much as he wants to really get to know Eleven, he's got business elsewhere now!
no subject
"Even if Eight asks, I don't know what would happen. I attempted to speak to them some time ago and I do not think they have forgotten me. I believe I interrupted." They explain, thinking back on the event before they turn to Gyre and shake their head.
"They are likely resting after working with Eight today. He would be able to ask." They offer, unfortunately not able to offer much more than that. They're impressed by his shield work, though
no subject
"I'm planning to talk to Eight tonight. I'm told he has something he wants to say to me." Luka comments, recalling his conversation with the Wizard. "I can ask if you'd like. I'm sure he wouldn't mind."
