Day 2: Monster Arrival

Afternoon: 12:00noon - Evening

[ IRL Timeframe: April 1st - April 14th, 2019 ]

Unfortunately for the heroes, only one of them has an easy time when the monsters arrive. In the history of the wizard fights, it was rare but not unheard of for multiple monsters to arrive. Years 12, 22, and 30 had featured three of a monster but only one was real. Year 9 had featured the tenth monster as ten individuals that all came together into one. And, most strangely, years 4, 13, 26, and 37 had featured a monster that had an active and an inactive body.

This year, the second monster appears in two places.

The first arrives in Craydon, its massive body just a ball of metallic spikes with two bright orange eyes in the middle. It looks like a massive urchin, its body easily close to ten feet across where it's sitting on the train tracks ahead of the train arriving. Its spikes stick out easily another ten feet in every direction, making it a gigantic terrifying ball. The party train's arrival to its 12:25pm destination ends with the conductor locking up the brakes to bring the train to a stop. This sucks!

The second arrives in Bamborough, its massive body easily sixty feet up in the air suspended atop dozens of small, thin metallic spikes for legs. Its two orange eyes scan down at the world below, its spherical body covered in smaller spike nubs on all other sides. The eyes aren't fixed in place, either, and they're scanning the oceanfront as it moves around. It's definitely looking for something and it's visible for miles. Good luck, everyone!

Monster Fight Opportunity: Craydon: Luka, Gyre, Web, Olivia, Joanna.
Monster Fight Opportunity: Bamborough: Haizea, Seth, Garrot, Gail, Zafika, Terrence, Matilda.

The Weather

  • Windy.
  • 61°F / 16°C
  • The trees are rustling, leaves flowing through the air.

Prompts:

  • 12:25pm Train Arrival: The party train comes to its final destination in Craydon at 12:25pm. The reason that it's a final destination is due to the monster on the tracks. Oh god, it's right there? Oh god, oh GOD??? When the train comes to a screeching halt, all the non-heroes quickly scamper out of the train to flee for safety. Good luck, heroes!

  • 12:30pm, Ramen, Far Haven: Social Media is abuzz that the Wizard has left the power plant and has gone to one of the chain ramen restaurants in Far Haven. The restaurant is known for its decent ramen, but everyone knows it can't compare to the local shops around the island. This is the "I just want to eat" ramen restaurant. But more importantly, this one has some sports bar qualities and has TVs up on the walls to watch. The Wizard is here, seated close to one of the TVs, and she's watching the events unfolding in Craydon and Bamborough. How is she doing that? Who's recording?

  • 12:30pm, The Bamborough Monster: Out on the waterfront boardwalk, the monster is lumbering its way along the wooden walkways seemingly in search of something. The few shops that were open are closing up as quickly as possible, the last thing they need is their already minimal business ruined by a visit from this monster. Please, someone come help.

  • ??:??pm: Unknown What happens next?

Garrot had been spending his post-class time cleaning up in the main room, but all it took to draw his attention was some louder voices and Matilda's teleportation. The approach tells him all he needs to know: two monsters.

Second monster in Bamborough. If you're in town, get back to the gym ASAP. Be careful in Craydon!

"So what's the plan? Do we wanna do any recon or just charge in?" Garrot leans his shoulder against the frame of the door, brow furrowed. He was more worried about Craydon, honestly, but this could be tricky.

“Ugh, no way, I can’t believe there’s two” Matilda practically deflates, way too bummed out by any of that to even consider poor Terrance’s state. She just groans and plucks at her romper, trying to straighten it perfectly. “We should try and get everyone closer to the one here, at least. If I try and teleport everyone there I’ll probably teleport us straight into the ocean and we’ll all drown.” She sounds... oddly sure of that?

Though still a bit flustered, Terrence manages to calm down a bit from the initial shock. He even succeeds in keeping a snarky comment on Matilda's reliability in check!

"Dividing into two distinct 'groups' worked well last time, but last time there was only one," he laments, turning to address the room as a whole this time. "From what I gather it sounds like this one is quite a bit larger, however, so swarming it is somewhat more feasible and I doubt it will be so difficult to catch..." Is he actually suggesting to just charge the thing without preparing again? This trip has had the rabbit knight not acting himself the whole time...

The local assassin arrives finally, if not late! Zafika hurries to where the Bamborough group is, and... is that Gail following them? Huh, well, at least they're all here now.

"I'm sorry, I left the gym for a while...!" They're a tad out of breath, seems like they were bit further away too, but they just hold up their phone for a moment to catch their breath before stashing it away. "I got the message, and saw some pictures of the monster, that's going to be fun to take care of..."

Gail was following Zafika, looking quite nervous but not out of breath. God this was getting worse and worse every single second. "What are we going to do? That doesn't look like something easy to take care of!!"

Haizea gives Zafika and Gail a nod when they join in and assesses the group as a whole. Looks like there's three people who know how to fight, that's not bad.

"If a problem looks too big, then you cut it down to size," she says confidently. "We oughta split into teams and attack it from different angles, that way we can see what's effective against it and hopefully take it down faster."

[personal profile] daddykong 2019-04-08 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Garrot just watches as the group assembles, mulling over the ideas everyone's throwing out. Rushing in, breaking into teams, and generalized stress. The doctor won't admit it, but he's also quite stressed- two monsters means he can't keep tabs on the other group and make sure they're okay. They're all the way in another town!

"Alright, quiet down!" Garrot bellows the words out, trying to use as much of the room's acoustics to his advantage. Nobody's any good if they're freaking out! He glances back towards a picture of the monster on his phone for a moment before putting on his best authoritative smile. "We've got this under control!" And then his eyes dart around the room for a moment until-

"Zafika and Matilda, teleport over there and let us know what you find." He gives Matilda a nod of trust, and then glances to Zafika. "Don't be heroes. Please run if you need to." And then there's a knowing wink for the assassin. Don't tire yourself out, Zafika.

"Zea, take..." Garrot skims the remaining Knights, and his eyes hone in on Seth as they squint just a bit. "Yeah, take Seth, and figure out how to hamstring this thing. Then just go wild." It keeps Seth out of his hair, and he knows Haizea will keep the boy from doing anything stupid. She gets a thumbs-up!

"Then I'll take Gail and Terrence." He points with one hand towards the Rabbit, and then towards the Horse. "We'll charge in hard and fast... or just keep it busy with some Gorilla Warfare." And then he looks expectantly at the group, partially for dissenting opinions, but mostly because the Monkey Knight sure did just make a horrible Monkey Pun. Truly terrible.

Zafika winces and quickly places their hands over their ears, Garrot some people here have very sharp hearing, mercy, please!

They listen to Garrot's instructions, squinting a little bit at that wink and a comment about not being heroes, but, they decided that the comment at least was for Matilda, they're smarter than trying to do that.

And then he makes a fucking monkey pun, and they groan as they drag a hand down their face, of course Garrot, the Monkey Knight would make a monkey pun. They hope they won't be getting more of those during the dinner he's still insistent about.

"Alright, I'm fine with this plan... Matilda, what do you say? Do you think you can teleport us close enough?" They turn to glance at Matilda quickly, and check how she's doing while they're at it as well.

Seth can pretty much feel Garrot squinting at him even though he's looking at everywhere but Garrot, just silently sighing as he, kind of reluctantly, pushes himself off the floor to stand, moving closer to Haizea. He'd been pretty quiet during when ideas had been thrown around too.

At least he got along with Haizea, not that that really mattered right now.
"Sure.", is all he types in response to Garrot's plan.
He seemed to actually be as apathetic as he tended to often look.
He didn't even really react to that terrible pun, which if you knew what he was like on social media was kind of surprsing, as he often seemed rather fond of bad puns there.

Oooh, the beefcake and the pool boy? This'd be rather nice if they weren't facing potential death! The pun doesn't seem to even register. Someone is making executive decisions, and that's what matters right now.

"That's agreeable! I can assist us in arriving posthaste again! Considering the Wizard didn't see fit to spirit the natives away this time, I suggest we do so..."

Gail looked more or less spooked out the farther the plan went. When he heard that HE would be part of the, charge team, he was riddled with nervousness.

"Uh, HOW close do we have to go? I mean I can probably maybe hopefully outrun the monster but like it would be the best for everyone included that we wouldn't have to go TOO close yes?" Here comes the nervous rambling yall.

Matilda has been gnawing on her lip at Garrot’s suggestion, her mind wandering to all the ways this could go terribly wrong, but when Zafika speaks to her, she physically jolts out of her daynightmare. Cheeks blooming scarlet, she nods her head frantically. “Y-yeah! I should be able to get us right there. It’ll be easier with two.” She pauses, then tries to regain her poise, brushing her fringe back from her cheek as she turns to look at Gail. “Don’t worry! If there’s too much trouble, I can help get people out.”
