Day 2: Monster Arrival

Afternoon: 12:00noon - Evening

[ IRL Timeframe: April 1st - April 14th, 2019 ]

Unfortunately for the heroes, only one of them has an easy time when the monsters arrive. In the history of the wizard fights, it was rare but not unheard of for multiple monsters to arrive. Years 12, 22, and 30 had featured three of a monster but only one was real. Year 9 had featured the tenth monster as ten individuals that all came together into one. And, most strangely, years 4, 13, 26, and 37 had featured a monster that had an active and an inactive body.

This year, the second monster appears in two places.

The first arrives in Craydon, its massive body just a ball of metallic spikes with two bright orange eyes in the middle. It looks like a massive urchin, its body easily close to ten feet across where it's sitting on the train tracks ahead of the train arriving. Its spikes stick out easily another ten feet in every direction, making it a gigantic terrifying ball. The party train's arrival to its 12:25pm destination ends with the conductor locking up the brakes to bring the train to a stop. This sucks!

The second arrives in Bamborough, its massive body easily sixty feet up in the air suspended atop dozens of small, thin metallic spikes for legs. Its two orange eyes scan down at the world below, its spherical body covered in smaller spike nubs on all other sides. The eyes aren't fixed in place, either, and they're scanning the oceanfront as it moves around. It's definitely looking for something and it's visible for miles. Good luck, everyone!

Monster Fight Opportunity: Craydon: Luka, Gyre, Web, Olivia, Joanna.
Monster Fight Opportunity: Bamborough: Haizea, Seth, Garrot, Gail, Zafika, Terrence, Matilda.

The Weather

  • Windy.
  • 61°F / 16°C
  • The trees are rustling, leaves flowing through the air.

Prompts:

  • 12:25pm Train Arrival: The party train comes to its final destination in Craydon at 12:25pm. The reason that it's a final destination is due to the monster on the tracks. Oh god, it's right there? Oh god, oh GOD??? When the train comes to a screeching halt, all the non-heroes quickly scamper out of the train to flee for safety. Good luck, heroes!

  • 12:30pm, Ramen, Far Haven: Social Media is abuzz that the Wizard has left the power plant and has gone to one of the chain ramen restaurants in Far Haven. The restaurant is known for its decent ramen, but everyone knows it can't compare to the local shops around the island. This is the "I just want to eat" ramen restaurant. But more importantly, this one has some sports bar qualities and has TVs up on the walls to watch. The Wizard is here, seated close to one of the TVs, and she's watching the events unfolding in Craydon and Bamborough. How is she doing that? Who's recording?

  • 12:30pm, The Bamborough Monster: Out on the waterfront boardwalk, the monster is lumbering its way along the wooden walkways seemingly in search of something. The few shops that were open are closing up as quickly as possible, the last thing they need is their already minimal business ruined by a visit from this monster. Please, someone come help.

  • ??:??pm: Unknown What happens next?

Gail sighs a breath of relief. As long as he's far away he's fine with this. Somewhat. The general idea of the entire situation was less than good, but what could you do when monster was involved.

Gail offers Terrence a small smile, before he perks up at the mention of the beach. "Beach would be ideal, actually! I uh, I have practised running on the beach recently, at uh, while I'm a bit slower on it it shouldn't be too bad? The only problem would be uh, the, stopping part but I'm slowly getting handle of that as well? Anyway we should go to the beach yes!" This was the most confident this horse had sounded since he came to this island.

As much as Garrot wants to be warm and encouraging, it looks like they spent too long planning! The Monster seems a bit less passive than before, and Garrot just groans. They don't have time for anxiety!

"Get going, I'll distract it!" Then Garrot pats Gail on the ass as he starts to move, like one might for a normal horse that was on a sports team, and sprints down the boardwalk. He's trusting Gail enough to skip telling him not to miss, so that's. Something? But between his run and the whirl of the poleaxe like a staff, Garrot's bringing quite a bit of momentum into his swing towards the closest leg(s).

[ Garrot aims a big swing of his poleaxe towards as many legs as he can aim for! ]

"R-Right!"

Now that it's actually Go Time, what little confidence Terrence had built up before is gone. Still, they're mostly running away from the monster, so it should be fine, right..? Gail is a smoother ride than Terrence expected, surprisingly so even once they're in the sand. Under normal circumstances he might tease the poor guy further, but now isn't the time.

"Alright, I estimate this is about appropriate," the rabbit nods once they've gained a respectable distance on the pointy monstrosity. Terrence actually hops down off of the centaur so that the other knight is less restrained. "It still looks like a plenty easy target from here, yes! Let's get you souped up!"

Thanks to a bit of practice, he's slightly more certain of himself than when using this power for the first time yesterday. He's... Actually not sure if he has to start off by putting his palms together in some sort of bizarre ritual, but he's done it that way every time so far. After the display, he places both hands on Gail's flank, and within seconds the familiar yellowish tan light begins to glow. Again a pattern of concentric circles formed of this light start from the rabbit knight's forearms and are slowly rolling along his form, 'flowing' first to his hands and then to the centaur's body, where they disperse out along his entire person before stretching out and fading as if sinking into him.

As the light sinks in, Gail will seem to feel more... Solid. More dense, as if somehow there were two of him crammed into the same amount of centaur-shaped space. There's no actual physical change, nor will he find it uncomfortable or any harder to move. The light seems to seem down to Gail's muscles and bones, providing a sensation of relief even when there is no strain - like any part of him could exert twice as much force as before with the exact same amount of effort.

"...Now then. Kick that prickly prick's ass!" Terrence gives Gail a broad smile and a peace sign, somewhat hypocritically given the command. It's a typical look for him on Torrence ads/PR images, combining the humor of the superficial similarity to the CEO's own ears with the company's primary message - rebuilding through cooperation between the races of the world. For the first time, it's actually completely genuine.

Gail had been bit surprised by the sudden pat on his ass, good sir that was his actual butt, the hell!? But no time for any of that, clearly it was go time so he quickly acquired a javelin from Giqra before moving to the beach.

The sand was not a big deal for Gail since like he had said, he had practised running on sand. He was filled with nervous energy, so running was, slightly making it better, but also making it worse. He tried to just keep breathing steady, he was carrying Terrence and couldn't do anything sudden that would make him fall.

And then he supposed Terrence did his thing because he felt, more. It wasn't uncomfortable feeling or anything, mainly just bit weird. Like he could do things much more with less effort? Was this what people like Garrot felt like? Gail looked at the monster with increasing nervousness, his hands shaking a little. He could do this. He could do this. He could do this. And with that he threw the javelin as hard as he possibly could.

[Gail throws the javelin at the very center of the monsters body]
