Day 2: Evening
Evening: 5:00pm - Midnight
[ IRL Timeframe: April 14th - April 22nd, 2019 ]Unfortunately for everyone, the second day's events are far less rewarding than the first day's. Now that things are starting to get real, there are consequences for what's taken place. Both monsters caused a bit of damage and a mess with their departure, but the locals on the island are trying to stay positive. Sometimes things just get messy, they've dealt with this for forty years it's fine.
But the heroes are sure to have a lot on their mind. Injuries mean it's less of a game and more likely to sink in as real. How will your hero cope tonight? The Princess and her two knights are due for a rendezvous with the Protector and, on the other hand, there are some evil-allured knights due for some private time with the Wizard. What will come of that?
The Weather
- Still.
- 61°F / 16°C
- An eerie calm has fallen over the island.
Prompts:
- 05:00pm Clean-up Crews: Both Bamborough and Craydon were left with big neon-green splashes of blood that aren't going to just wash off. Numerous locals in both areas are hard at work cleaning up after the second monsters, scrubbing at buildings and assessing the damage to the island. In Bamborough, the locals are hard at work trying to salvage the damage to the boardwalk or put up caution tape around the destroyed areas. Is your hero lending a hand in all this? Is someone else helping? Bond over picking up the pieces, but hey... it could be worse, right?
- 5:30pm, Craydon: Despite being largely untouched by the monster's arrival, the citizens of Craydon have dropped by the train station to check in on the heroes. Anyone in the area will be given a small care package of items and offered a free coupon for any restaurant in the area. Will your hero go alone and run into someone who was craving the same food they were, or will they team up with their fellow heroes to drop by a restaurant together? Everyone needs to unwind, after all!
- 5:30pm, Bamborough: Despite the boardwalk damage, the Bamborough oceanfront diner is offering 'monster margaritas' tonight. They're set up as an open-air bar tonight, doors and windows open to let in the cool sea air. Every hero gets their first monster margarita free if they can stomach the bright green color, and they've got deep fried bar foods for half off. Come in, indulge, have a drink to get your mind off of the events of the day, heroes!
- 5:30pm, Far Haven: The Far Haven clinic has advertised that its doors are open to any hero injured, or just in need of a check-up, for the rest of the evening. They want to check in on all the heroes and make sure they're okay. Did your hero come alone and run into someone here? Or did they come together to get stitched up? Or maybe they just need to be reassured that everything will be okay.
- 8:30pm, 9:05pm, 9:40pm, Train station(s): As always, Social media is incredibly quick to report Wizard appearances. At 8:00pm they report that the Wizard is waiting for the train in Bamborough station. She does, in fact, board the train at 8:30pm and they start theorizing where her destination is. Social media points out that her train will be arriving in Craydon at 9:05pm, then it will get to Far Haven by 9:40pm. If a hero tries to find her when the train arrives back in the Bamborough station at 10:15pm, though, the train will be empty. Where will your hero find her? Bamborough between 8 and 8:30pm? On the train in Craydon at 9:05pm? Or when she disembarks in Far Haven at 9:40pm?

[Her smile widens at the offer of a forest tour, and she shifts her position so she's sitting cross-legged on the chair.] That sounds like it could be fun! Do you know the forest well enough already that you don't get lost? That's amazing- oh, and do you know the names of the trees that grow there? Or what animals live there? [Her tail may or may not be practically wagging at this point. She's read a lot of books about science and nature, so the possibility of seeing all of it in person with whom she suddenly decided is an expert is very exciting.] When would we go?
no subject
Ah, no I don't. I won't get us lost, but I've never been good with the names you all have come up with... [He shrugs a little, hoping that doesn't sour her enthusiasm]
We can go now, if you like?
no subject
She bites her lip, putting her phone away as she rests her head on one hand.] Well, maybe it'd be better to leave it for another day, actually... I'm actually in the middle of uh, moving out. [She pats the backpack she has on, and then gives him a little shrug.] And I think it might be a good idea to do that now before shit gets too crazy around here, you know?
no subject
[So when she does, his eyes widen in surprise. He sits back in his chair, listening to her and nodding slightly. Some other time, he supposes]
Sure... [His brow creases very slightly as he thinks. They were assigned housing, right? Was she just ignoring that to find someplace better? He can't blame her for that]
What was wrong with your other place?
no subject
Eh, I thought since the world might end and such I might as well go to a fancy hotel for once, you know? But honestly I didn't feel safe at all there and I'm more used to sleeping on couches anyway, so. [She waves her hand dismissively.] At this point I'd be fine sleeping on the floor as long as I can fucking shower soon.
[She takes a second wing, pursing her lips in thought.] Hmm... how about tomorrow? Hopefully the weather's nice for a walk in the forest, yeah?
no subject
Tomorrow, yeah. We could meet here again? Maybe a couple hours before the monster's due? [As he's speaking, a thought seems to occur to him and he begins patting down... his bare chest]
Oh, dammit. [He reaches down and brings up his care basket with his clothes folded on top, beginning to search through the inside pockets of his vest]
I was given an apartment in this city. You can take it if you want? [Ah ha! Here's the little keyfob he was given, and he sets it on the table between them. There's a tag with the address, and a little piece to open the door to the building. It's a nice place! Gyre didn't even look at it before he abandoned it lmao]
no subject
Her face lights up as he makes the offer.] For real!? That would make my life so much easier - are you sure, though?
no subject
I uh, don't really like sleeping inside unfamiliar buildings. [He shrugs very slightly, glancing off to the side]
I'm not much of a morning person either, by the way. [He snorts softly, clearly amused] Maybe after the monster'll be better for us.
no subject
[She takes the key, reading the tag. It's likely she has no idea where that address is, but she'll manage to find it - if not this night, then as soon as she wakes up. She gives him one last "are you super sure about this" look before pocketing it with a smile.] Thank you, Gyre. I really owe you one.
no subject
No, no. You don't. It's important that we're able to take care of ourselves during [gestures around vaguely] all this.
[...he chews his lip for a moment, glancing downwards. How hopeful should he be? He's trying to stay positive so]
If the third monster is anything like these first two, I'd be surprised if we didn't finish early.

I looked at the building when I first got here, but I don't remember how to get there. [Cities are hard to navigate when you're used to forests! He can tell the difference between trees and streams, but every city building is just a tall grey slab to him for the most part]
no subject
But still! She knows how to take things for herself, but not how to accept them as gifts!] Ah, well. You have my number anyway.
no subject
[And then sudden recognition]
Oh, like your phone number? I think I've got it, yeah. [He doesn't know how to check]
no subject
Do you, um, know how to use it? Your phone?
no subject
No. Not really. [He grunts softly and licks his lips, hesitating for a moment to admit any more then that]
The phone I normally use is uh, a lot older.
no subject
[She's still drunk, but she figures she's there enough to be able to help if he needs it. She cleans her hands with a napkin before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.] I could teach you, if you want?
no subject
Yeah. I'd appreciate it. The uh, messaging stuff seems like it might be pretty important.
no subject
So, um, your phone comes with a few applications installed on it. People call them "apps" for short. The two most important for us are the ones for messaging and calling, like we used, uh... yesterday to fight the monster, yeah? [She proceeds to explain where to find his contact list, and how texting and calling works. She shows him how to send pictures and share his location, just in case, and also briefly explains how he can have a password for his phone, since hers is, naturally, locked. She takes her time with each explanation, making sure he's actually understanding what she's talking about; she's nothing if not patient!]
no subject
[It's good she's got patience because he learns slowly, and he asks a lot of questions. This is like learning a new language for him, and while he's definitely absorbed the information, he still looks vaguely frustrated by the end]
Thank you. [...] For all that. Is there a uh, an app? Where I can write all of it down?
no subject
Of course! We're supposed to work together after all, right?
[She smiles, glad to be of assistance, and starts scrolling through her apps until she finds the notes one.]
You can write anything on this app and it saves it on its own!
no subject
[He follows her as she scrolls through her phone, at about half the speed, taking a long moment to find the symbol she's gesturing to. He pokes it, opening the app and nodding... slowly. There's still that vague frustration on his face while he's looking at his screen, but the second he looks up to her, he's grinning, entirely pleased]
Thank you. Again, ah. I know we're supposed to work together, but your time is important and you used it for this. It's really going to help me, I think.
no subject
Just don't be one of those people who uh, sends texts at four A.M. when everyone's sleeping, you know? That sucks.
