Day 5: Afternoon
Afternoon: 12:00noon - Evening
[ IRL Timeframe: September 25th - October 9th, 2019 ]It's monster time for four heroes!
When Five appears, it's in the form of a one-on-one fight. Not everyone will get the chance to raise their weapon and fight. Everyone else will be left to handle the goings-ons of the island in general. Harsen Island isn't a quiet place, and there's plenty happening on day five to keep everyone occupied. Now that the dust has settled on the mountain, anyone can go up to look at where the Child emerged from.
Or they can go see the Child themselves, social media is doing a good job tracking their path down to the piers in Far Haven. It's easy to track a glowing magic entity! If the Child isn't who they're interested in, they can find the Wizard, Ten, and the Protector in the hospital in Far Haven. What a popular city! It's the biggest place on Harsen Island, so that makes sense.
But all over the island, things are happening and events are unfolding... at this point, the heroes know more than anyone else does. They'd better be ready to work together!
The Weather
- Eerily still.
- 61°F / 16°C
- Brrr, where'd that cool wind come from?
Prompts:
- 12:00pm The Child, Far Haven: [Continuation of the previous thread.]
Anyone who had interacted with the child, or chased them, is in for an unfortunate surprise. They've been targeted by Five and are about to have to deal with her. Olivia is the first to go toe to toe with her, and the encounter ends up allowing the Child to escape.
When Five appears, she's walking with the confidence of a killer who's sighted their mark. She's the most human-like by far, but there are still dead giveaways as to what she really is. For one, her bright yellow skin is a mark that she can't do away with. That aside, she looks like an assassin right out of a video game. Her head is obscured under a black hood, her mouth masked behind fabric, and her five amber eyes (two on the left and right, one vertically on her forehead) glint as she approaches. Her outfit is all black, pants, shoes, shirt, all leaving no sign of the skin beneath. Dangling from her neck is a circular metallic necklace. Instead of weapons grasped in each hand, she's dragging along two black bags. The sound of the fabric scratching along the ground announces her arrival.
"I challenge you to a duel." She says, her voice sounding all too much like a young child's. As she says it, the world around the two of them disappears. The ground at their feet lies under an inch of water, reflecting the cloudy sky above. There are dead trees sparsly jutting up from the ground and fractured pieces of buildings laying around. This is clearly a battlefield, a wide, lifeless expanse that exists solely to fight.
Anyone in Far Haven will be able to find the child at the end of the Far haven pier, staring out at the ocean. Social media isn't quiet about where they are. But the four who face off against Five won't be able to get there until they've dealt with her.- 12:30pm Train Derailment, Bamborough: Unfortunately for anyone who gets the news about anything in Craydon or Far Haven, there's no way to get there. On its way into the train station, the train rolled over a handful of stray acorns and one of the sets of wheels hopped off of the tracks. It'll take a few hours at a minimum to get it back in place. Is your character stranded at the train station? Do they spy a fellow hero also stranded? Will they decide to take a long 4-5 hour power-walk along the tracks out to either of the other cities? Will they just wait for the train? Do they go rent a car to get out there? Roadtrip?! Or do they just go somewhere in Bamborough to kill time?
- 12:45pm Bed & Breakfast Helping Hand, Craydon: The owner of the Helping Hand Bed & Breakfast needs a helping hand! They threw their back out after carrying a large stack of firewood in for the wood oven. Looks like they're down for the count for at least the rest of the day. Care to lend a hand, perhaps with your fellow heroes, to get things taken care of? The laundry needs to be done, more firewood has to be cut, the food has to be cooked, the guests have to be checked in and out... Who's going to do all this if they can't even get up off the ground? They're in a rough spot! Social media was kind enough to report on what happened, but the one who reported it had to catch a flight and needed to head off. Good luck, heroes!
- 2:00pm Hospital Visit, Far Haven: Despite being the Wizard, the doctors at the Far Haven hospital insisted that there would be no visitors until at least 2pm. They'd rarely had an opportunity to speak to the Wizard in previous years and they weren't going to pass up an opportunity like this especially not after Ten arrived carrying the Wizard. Anyone who tried following after was left in the waiting room, forced to read bad magazines and sit in uncomfortable chairs. When the doctors finally allow visitors, they look pale. Like they've been told something awful, but they're unwilling to talk about what they talked about. Inside the hospital room, the Wizard is reclined back in a hospital bed with Ten at her side. She's looking conscious, at least, but she still looks pretty roughed up. Ten is playing defense against anyone who tries to get close.
Worse than that, the Protector arrives at the Hospital not long after the doctors allow people into the room. Though the doctors won't speak to the heroes, the Protector can be found tracking them down throughout the hospital. In the waiting room, in the lobby, in the halls, in the elevators. Whatever they were told, it looks like the Protector is making his way around the hospital to undo it. Anyone who sees him will notice that he has a sword scabbard dangling from his belt. Looks like he's ready to defend himself.- 2:00pm Unlimited Tacos, Bamborough: One restaurant noticed that there were more people wandering aimlessly around Bamborough than normal because of the train being derailed. As a result, they put out signs advertising free tacos for the rest of the day! Any hero may show up and sit down to dine on tacos of all types and flavors. Unfortunately this taco shop only specializes in flour-shell options, but their flavors are on point! Dine in with your fellow heroes and discuss all the nonsense that's been happening... and it's only day five.
- 4:00pm Free Drinks, Far Haven: If your hero is just tired of everything having to be So Much All The Time, they can drop by one of Far Haven's brightest night life bars called "Reach". They're offering free drinks all night to celebrate the Wizard getting put in the hospital. Things are looking pretty easy for the team this year! The special drink being offered is the "Wizard Bomb" which drops a blue shot into a bubbly red drink. It's pretty tasty and, best of all, free! Which heroes will find each other here before the night crowd shows up? Sun's still out for now!
- 4:00pm Free Admission Meditation, Craydon: Heroes need to take a moment to breathe, and one of the locals in Craydon has realized that. They've offered any hero a free meditation session in their garden room. Incense will be lit, hot towels will be offered, and the gentle serene environment of their garden room (complete with the carefully-combed and designed zen sand pit) will make sure any stress just melts away. Does your hero run across someone else while walking in or leaving?

[ Besides, she's already going to kill someone else with a dagger. ]
[ Over Olivia's shoulder, Iv offers out a matching knight weapon. A perfectly balanced long sword with a cute minotaur face on side of the pommel. ]
I am going to kill you, knight, but your companion will be spared.
no subject
She turns her attention back to Five as she speaks, rolling her shoulders to start limbering up. She's never had a duel before, but she's read enough books that it should be fine, right?] That's quite nice of you! I'll hold you to that, if we don't kill you first. [It's two against one, anyway. If Five gets to pick the battleground, Olivia gets to pick a sidekick! She gives Iv a nod before giving Five a little smirk, daring her to come at her.]
Olivia is ready to defend herself.
no subject
Should I help? [ Iv asks, standing by close to Olivia. Is this a one-on-one or are there no rules because it's a monster? How honorable is Olivia? She wants to make sure okay!! No toe-stepping happening here. ]
Time to die! [ She shouts and rushes forward. Her first blow is uh... pretty careless. She just runs up and lifts her blade high, swinging it down hard like a hammer. ]
[ And then she does it again. And again. She's not using the sword like a sword, she's trying to smash Olivia with it until she wins. Uh. It's easy to block, but what next? ]
no subject
Five, right? Are you sure you want to do this? [She asks her, as she pushes away from her, maintaining a defensive position.] We could just not and say we did, you know?
no subject
[ Fortunately Five is predictable, and she finally stops hammer-bashing with her blade. She pauses to get her stance back, narrowing her eyes. ]
Oh sure, because you won't stab me in the back when I walk away. Like I would believe you! [ And then she rears her hand back and throws her blade right at Olivia! It isn't even a good throw! The blade tumbles through the air recklessly, making it hard to predict where it'll land. ]
[ And with that distraction out in the air, Five has turned around and is... running back over to her bags of weapons! Looks like it's time to swap? ]
no subject
[She gives her time to search for a new weapon anyway, relaxing her stance for a moment as she glances around their surroundings with curiosity.] I mean, I don't even like fighting you all and, no offense, I had plans for today already.
no subject
[ Five stands abruptly, newly-acquired-Katar gripped in her hand. ]
You're trying to trick me! [ She accuses, pointing her free hand at Olivia and standing over the bag. ]
And I'm here to kill you! So! We have to fight! [ Her tone really should be "and that's that, no questions asked!" but instead her tone is mostly "so be ready, you're ready right? We're doing this right? It's time to fight? Right? Right???" ]
no subject
Do we have to fight? Are... you being forced to it? 'Cause, otherwise... [She bites her lip, thinking for a moment before her eyes move to Iv. The Protector and Luka had made it very clear talking to the monsters wasn't worth it, but she had always been curious by nature. She wanted the full picture. She musters a confident smile and gives her minotaur friend a nod, un-summoning her. She knows Iv is always around anyway, but she doesn't know how she'll react to her ignoring the Protector's warning and she doesn't want to find out what disappointment looks like on a cow's face.
As soon as Iv's gone, her eyes move back to Five.] Listen, you're right. I'm technically supposed to kill you on sight. But I've talked to Ten-- I was supposed to meet them today too, actually, and... [She pauses. She's so not used to being honest, she won't be shocked if Five doesn't believe her. She clicks her tongue and sighs.] I'm just trying to understand what we're fighting for, I guess?
no subject
Why did you talk to him. [ She asks it more accusingly than anything. Knights talking, instead of fighting, sounded like a lie. ]
What. You don't believe your stupid Protector's lie about it? [ She says, her words dripping with a clear dislike for the Protector. ]
no subject
I wouldn't, uh... call him stupid. [She grimaces, resting her weapon on her shoulder as she talks. She looks as relaxed as a woman holding a sword can be, even if her mind is racing.] I mean, if he's lying, he was smart enough to make the whole fucking world believe him, right?
I'd love to hear your version of it. There was only so much Ten could share through his... etch-a-sketch... [A beat.] Although what he did share was enough for me to know it's worth trying to talk shit out instead of just fighting, you know?
no subject
...And you didn't kill him. [ She says it aloud like she knows that's true rather than suspecting a lie. ]
The Protector can't hear you here. He's stupid and he thinks he can do anything. [ She folds her arms, starting to tap a foot on the floor. ]
Because everyone believes him, there's no one who can stop him. Even your stupid princess believes him.
no subject
[She frowns, looking away when she calls the princess 'stupid'.] I don't think Luka's an idiot. He can be kind of a diva at times but I think he genuinely means well. Which is... rare, at least from what I'm used to. [She shrugs slightly.] I think anyone would want to trust someone whose voice they hear in their head, you know? [The alternative is... terrifying!
Her eyes land on Five again.] What do you think the Protector's actually trying to do then, if he's been lying?
no subject
The Protector isn't in his head anymore, make him think for himself. Otherwise what Four did was a waste. [ She huffs. ]
He wants us to roll over and die because he thinks we aren't alive. He thinks we're their stupid spell; like they could create something like us. [ She scoffs, sounding offended by the idea that someone like him could've had a hand in her creation. ]
no subject
[She hums, her tail swishing from side to side as she thinks.] Ten couldn't give me a straight answer when I asked about how you guys came to be. He just said you're from this world, like us. But then... why do you help the Wizard? Is she actually trying to destroy everything or... is that a lie, too?
no subject
No. They pulled the Protector out of his stupid space in the Princess' brain. Now he's in the world. [ She gives a hollow laugh. ]
Like we've been forced to be. [ She doesn't waste time before she answers Olivia's other question, though. ]
Of course the Wizard isn't trying to destroy the world, isn't that obvious? [ Like, duh, Olivia. She folds her arms again, looking fairly displeased that she had to even say it. ]
no subject
Forced to...? [She can't finish formulating her question before Five gives her sass. She rolls her eyes, placing her free hand on her hip.] Is it? Keep in mind all I know is the, apparently, lies I've been fed since I was born. And what the Protector said was basically something like... she wants to leave and to do it we have to go down, and our planet is pretty much doomed anyway. [She sighs.]
So... I'm all ears.
no subject
It isn't hard. They showed up, threw a net on us, we made the net into a jacket... or I guess twenty-something jackets, but he insists we're the apocalypse or whatever, we just want to leave and he won't let us. Simple enough? [ She says as she places her hands on her hips. ]
no subject
How would you leave? I mean... would that harm the world in any way?
no subject
This stupid game! It's dumb and this place is dumb. [ She emphasizes the words, before shaking her head. ]
But yeah, this world too, if we could, but this dumb game keeps us here. We can't even leave this dumb island.
no subject
[She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose.] You're clearly not in a mood for a history lesson but, you did kidnap me, so. I have all the time in the world if you care to explain what the fuck is going on.
no subject
No! It's no one's game. It's just a dumb cage we're all stuck in. That's the lesson! Two dummies tried to "save the world"-- [ She holds up her hands, giving big air quotes with her fingers as she says it. ]
They messed their dumb plan up, we all got roped into some dumb game they came up with, and now it just needs to end already. It's! Just! So! Dumb! [ She throws her hands up in the air. ]
no subject
As I understand it, either the Wizard dies or we all do. I'm guessing the all includes you, too.
no subject
Of course he'd say that. If he's dead or if all three of them are alive at the end then we're fine. He can't be alone. I just want to leave.
no subject
And who do you mean by "all three of them"? [She cocks her head.] Does that include Sxicq...?
no subject
So go ask Ten for all I care! [ But she shakes her head, ugh. What a series of weird questions. Isn't the answer obvious, Olivia! She thinks they're obvious so obviously they're obvious! ]
Yeah, Sxicq and the Wizard and the idiot. They wouldn't all be fighting if they agreed on anything. It's either continue all this stupidity or end it, and only one of them wants it to continue: The idiot.
