Day 6: Morning
Morning: 6:00am - 12:00noon
[ IRL Timeframe: October 31st - NovemberIn the typically quiet town of Craydon, most residents know that the beach is only a short walk away from the train station at the base of the mountainous region they live in. They've constructed a long wooden path out to the edge of the sandy area, with a number of benches available for any residents. Typically there are a handful of locals either walking, relaxing, fishing, or ocean watching on this normally quiet and uneventful beach. But today, at sunrise, the Wizard and the Protector are on the beach. The Wizard has made short work of sending everyone away but a few have remained to post it to social media.
It's a stalemate, for the most part. For every blow one flings, the other parries it. For every shout, there's one in return. Most unsettling, however, is that they're arguing in a language that isn't native to this world.
Far Haven isn't having an uneventful morning but it is having a quiet morning. The Hospital is looking better after the events of Day 5, the front doors are now available for use and a construction team is hard at work undoing the damage that had been done the previous day. It's definitely not fixed yet, but it's clearly on the way.
That isn't the big event that's drawing people's attention, though. Six, today's monster, has borrowed a chair from inside the hospital's lobby and placed it in the courtyard right outside the front doors. He can be found sitting, one leg propped up over the other and showing off one of the cowboy boots he's wearing, with a clipboard leaned up on his leg. Two of his arms are sitting on the armrests, casually drumming like he's impatient. Two more arms are folded across his front, and the last two arms are holding and writing on the clipboard. His yellow skin is bright as the sunlight hits him, but he's clearly ready for the sun with a pair of aviator sunglasses covering his eyes. Are there multiple eyes under there? He's wearing a cowboy hat with a white bandana around his neck and thick hair(?) bound up in a ponytail dangling off the back of the chair. This monster's a cowboy!
Oh, and there's a huge double-headed axe propped up against his chair. Can't forget that, that's scary.
Bamborough is a strange blend of eventful and not. The Child's boat is back and social media has made no secret of where they headed: Breakfast. The Bamborough Diner, a staple location in the tourist town, has been serving them meal after meal all morning. They're on their sixth meal, stuffing pancake after pancake into their mouth. They've been using the diner's picture-filled menu to order item after item and they haven't repeated one yet. It's time to EAT!
But with all this happening, surely the heroes won't be up to anything else? There's definitely no reason why the Wizard has suddenly chose to go toe-to-toe with the Protector this morning, right? No way, no how.
There's definitely a reason.
The Weather
- A little foggy.
- 55°F / 13°C
- Uh, grab a jacket, it's actually chilly.
Prompts:

The heroes can try to get close, but they'll eventually find a barrier in their way. Is your hero here? Are they talking to others? Is there anything they can do? Or do they know more about what's happening than they've told others?- 07:00am Harsen Island Regional Hospital, Far Haven: Far Haven isn't having an uneventful morning but it is having a quiet morning. "Ciqu sefiv." They say, and the waiter is forced to nod and go "Okay?" before rushing off to submit the omelette.
The child pauses for a moment to look at Fen and then over to Gyre. They squint, looking at him like he'd asked a ridiculous question.
"Sxicq." (Zzh-ik)
no subject
"Sxicq? It's... good to meet you," he says, his voice going soft and thoughtful for a moment. "I'm surprised you came back..."
no subject
"Qu qu' iv ci, cifiiv' usfiiv aj aj fi fiiv." They explain, before pausing and looking over at Fen who has just finished the pancake and they blink back.
"Qu ci iv qu?"
"Aj, iv, Qu qu!" Fen answers cheerily before turning to Gyre.
"They can't leave the island so they came back here!" They tell him, practically radiating excitement that they get to share with Gyre.
no subject
"You can understand them, Fen? Is... Are they the person you could hear sometimes?"
no subject
"I can and yes, they are!" They motion across the table at the child who is uh...
...staring longingly towards the kitchen.
Where is their omelette.
They're hungry.
no subject
"I'm glad you could meet them!" he says brightly, glancing at the child. He follows their gaze up and over to the kitchen, realizing they're looking for more food. He should distract them until it comes, he decides, and he folds his arms on the table.
"How are you feeling?" he asks them after a second, opening a hand to hopefully bring their attention back to him.
no subject
Gyre's attempt to get Sxicq's attention back works and they turn towards him--
Their whole face is eyes.
Every single bit of space on their face is filled with eyes for a brief moment before all the extras blink closed and vanish into their gem skin. (Ha ha, what the fuck?) They look over him for a moment before turning to Fen and speaking in that same language that won't show up in this tag because a certain someone didn't copy the requirements of how to write it off of a home computer. Way to go, certain someone! But that doesn't matter, because Fen nods at them before chiming in beside Gyre:
"They said they're hungry." They answer and--
As if on command, the waiter swings by with the omelette, setting it down-- and the child is insistently pointing at two more items. Deep fried onion rings and... a triple-stack burger? The waiter looks nervous and glances towards Gyre to see?? If he?? Wants?? Anything???
Sxicq, meanwhile, wastes no time in taking heaping handfuls of the omelette and stuffing them into their mouth. Gomf gomf gomf.
no subject
"I uh... I can tell," he says slowly, peering up at the waiter while the child over here demolishes an omelet. He's suddenly very aware of where he is and how little he understands the etiquette of these places. It's way too distracting for him, and the kid looks busy anyway.
"I would like to talk with you sometime. It doesn't have to be now. If you and Fen want to eat together, I'll uh, sit outside or something," he offers to the two of them, shifting in his chair to stand and get away from this suddenly too noisy place.
no subject
Sxicq makes a comment and Fen immediately chimes in:
"Why are you leaving? Didn't you want to talk to them?" They sound massively confused, inching closer towards Gyre and--
They bite the hem of his shirt to stop him from leaving.
"Mrmph-!"
no subject
First, he looks up to the waiter, shaking his head very slightly. "No. I'm fine. Just keep helping them," he says, gesturing towards the child.
The child who he's now going to focus on, folding his free arm across the table while he continues to scratch around Fen's head. "I... want to help you. You want to get away from here, right?"
no subject
The waiter, meanwhile, stammers before rushing off. Okay! Fine! Bye! Time to submit that order!
At Gyre's inquiry, they wait for several moments before they nod in response to him. Yes. That is the core idea of what they want.
no subject
He chews his lip, watching them for a few beats longer. Guess he'll have to do his best for now.
"Uh, right, I want to help, but you... Do you want to hurt people? I need to keep them safe, too."
no subject
They hold a single finger out in front of them. One.
"Ivi." They declare.
And then they're back to shovelling food into their mouth. That omelette never stood a chance.
no subject
"The Protector?" he asks softly, letting his hand settle gently on top of Fen's head. He'll pet them occasionally, but the scritches are done for now.
no subject
And then they take a bite out of the end of the plate, the horrible sound of ceramic shattering in their mouth filling the air.
They look completely unfazed, crunching and swallowing it before making a face at the plate and then setting it down. Apparently it wasn't tasty.
no subject
But they sure do do that, and he laughs in surprise when they put the plate down in distaste.
"Looks like it didn't taste very good?"
no subject
"Qu ecq fifenfenqu."
And they they wave out their hand like they're disposing of something unpleasant. Truly terrible, that plate.
no subject
"I've never seen any of them eat one before. I don't think you're supposed to," he says, thoughtfully looking around the room. This, of course, reminds him of exactly where he is, and a little shiver rushes down his spine. He shakes his head, looking back to Sxicq and trying to focus on them alone again.
"Sorry, uh... you're... magic, right?"
no subject
The remaining plate that's in their hand bursts into blue flames. There's no smoke and, seemingly, no heat. It's like it's just on fire.
Moments later, the plate sizzles to dust and lands on the table. They glance down at the little dust pile, brushing it to the side.
Across the restaurant, the waiter is freaking the fuck out. What the hell!!! They don't want to bring the next dish over if it's gonna get burned!
no subject
"Stop, stop!" he shouts, standing and knocking poor Fen off his leg. It takes him a second to realize that the fire is just burning out, and he releases the shield so that the ash lands in a pile on the table.
"You-you can't... You're going to scare people doing stuff like that."
no subject
They narrow their eyes immediately, suspiciously. They pick up another plate and hold it up in front of them, eyes locked on Gyre.
"Qu iv ci, usfiiv fi." They demand, giving the plate a little wiggle. Go on, Gyre, do it.
At Gyre's side, Fen is blinking blearily after the rude awakening. "Buh?" they mutter.
no subject
Then they're speaking at him and he can see the suspicious in his voice. He softens slightly, not sure what he did wrong. He opens his mouth to say so, to try to figure out what they need, but he's interrupted by Fen beginning to wake up beside him.
He sets a hand on their head quickly, bending closer to look them over, murmuring, "I didn't mean to wake you, Fen. Are you alright?" He checks on them with a few gentle touches, looking up to Sxicq after a second.
"I don't know what you said. Do you want me to take that?" he asks, reaching forward to take? the plate??
no subject
"Qu iv ci, usfiiv fi!" They demand, more insistently. Flickers of fire start to appear around the plate, indicating they're moments away from bursting it into flames again.
From their position on the seat, Fen sleepily mutters "do that again" up at Gyre.
no subject
"If you want to do that, we should go outside. Once you've finished eating, maybe."
no subject
Even as the waiter drops by and places a burger in front of them, and nervously looks at Gyre in case he's hungry??? The waiter shuffles off while Sxicq rotates the orb around in their hands. They're examining it, analyzing it--
And then it changes colors, becoming a bright blue like the energy that he's seen run through their body time and time again. If he tries to dispel it, it'll stay put. What did they just do?
