Day 6: Morning
Morning: 6:00am - 12:00noon
[ IRL Timeframe: October 31st - NovemberIn the typically quiet town of Craydon, most residents know that the beach is only a short walk away from the train station at the base of the mountainous region they live in. They've constructed a long wooden path out to the edge of the sandy area, with a number of benches available for any residents. Typically there are a handful of locals either walking, relaxing, fishing, or ocean watching on this normally quiet and uneventful beach. But today, at sunrise, the Wizard and the Protector are on the beach. The Wizard has made short work of sending everyone away but a few have remained to post it to social media.
It's a stalemate, for the most part. For every blow one flings, the other parries it. For every shout, there's one in return. Most unsettling, however, is that they're arguing in a language that isn't native to this world.
Far Haven isn't having an uneventful morning but it is having a quiet morning. The Hospital is looking better after the events of Day 5, the front doors are now available for use and a construction team is hard at work undoing the damage that had been done the previous day. It's definitely not fixed yet, but it's clearly on the way.
That isn't the big event that's drawing people's attention, though. Six, today's monster, has borrowed a chair from inside the hospital's lobby and placed it in the courtyard right outside the front doors. He can be found sitting, one leg propped up over the other and showing off one of the cowboy boots he's wearing, with a clipboard leaned up on his leg. Two of his arms are sitting on the armrests, casually drumming like he's impatient. Two more arms are folded across his front, and the last two arms are holding and writing on the clipboard. His yellow skin is bright as the sunlight hits him, but he's clearly ready for the sun with a pair of aviator sunglasses covering his eyes. Are there multiple eyes under there? He's wearing a cowboy hat with a white bandana around his neck and thick hair(?) bound up in a ponytail dangling off the back of the chair. This monster's a cowboy!
Oh, and there's a huge double-headed axe propped up against his chair. Can't forget that, that's scary.
Bamborough is a strange blend of eventful and not. The Child's boat is back and social media has made no secret of where they headed: Breakfast. The Bamborough Diner, a staple location in the tourist town, has been serving them meal after meal all morning. They're on their sixth meal, stuffing pancake after pancake into their mouth. They've been using the diner's picture-filled menu to order item after item and they haven't repeated one yet. It's time to EAT!
But with all this happening, surely the heroes won't be up to anything else? There's definitely no reason why the Wizard has suddenly chose to go toe-to-toe with the Protector this morning, right? No way, no how.
There's definitely a reason.
The Weather
- A little foggy.
- 55°F / 13°C
- Uh, grab a jacket, it's actually chilly.
Prompts:

The heroes can try to get close, but they'll eventually find a barrier in their way. Is your hero here? Are they talking to others? Is there anything they can do? Or do they know more about what's happening than they've told others?- 07:00am Harsen Island Regional Hospital, Far Haven: Far Haven isn't having an uneventful morning but it is having a quiet morning. And then they take a bite out of the end of the plate, the horrible sound of ceramic shattering in their mouth filling the air.
They look completely unfazed, crunching and swallowing it before making a face at the plate and then setting it down. Apparently it wasn't tasty.
no subject
But they sure do do that, and he laughs in surprise when they put the plate down in distaste.
"Looks like it didn't taste very good?"
no subject
"Qu ecq fifenfenqu."
And they they wave out their hand like they're disposing of something unpleasant. Truly terrible, that plate.
no subject
"I've never seen any of them eat one before. I don't think you're supposed to," he says, thoughtfully looking around the room. This, of course, reminds him of exactly where he is, and a little shiver rushes down his spine. He shakes his head, looking back to Sxicq and trying to focus on them alone again.
"Sorry, uh... you're... magic, right?"
no subject
The remaining plate that's in their hand bursts into blue flames. There's no smoke and, seemingly, no heat. It's like it's just on fire.
Moments later, the plate sizzles to dust and lands on the table. They glance down at the little dust pile, brushing it to the side.
Across the restaurant, the waiter is freaking the fuck out. What the hell!!! They don't want to bring the next dish over if it's gonna get burned!
no subject
"Stop, stop!" he shouts, standing and knocking poor Fen off his leg. It takes him a second to realize that the fire is just burning out, and he releases the shield so that the ash lands in a pile on the table.
"You-you can't... You're going to scare people doing stuff like that."
no subject
They narrow their eyes immediately, suspiciously. They pick up another plate and hold it up in front of them, eyes locked on Gyre.
"Qu iv ci, usfiiv fi." They demand, giving the plate a little wiggle. Go on, Gyre, do it.
At Gyre's side, Fen is blinking blearily after the rude awakening. "Buh?" they mutter.
no subject
Then they're speaking at him and he can see the suspicious in his voice. He softens slightly, not sure what he did wrong. He opens his mouth to say so, to try to figure out what they need, but he's interrupted by Fen beginning to wake up beside him.
He sets a hand on their head quickly, bending closer to look them over, murmuring, "I didn't mean to wake you, Fen. Are you alright?" He checks on them with a few gentle touches, looking up to Sxicq after a second.
"I don't know what you said. Do you want me to take that?" he asks, reaching forward to take? the plate??
no subject
"Qu iv ci, usfiiv fi!" They demand, more insistently. Flickers of fire start to appear around the plate, indicating they're moments away from bursting it into flames again.
From their position on the seat, Fen sleepily mutters "do that again" up at Gyre.
no subject
"If you want to do that, we should go outside. Once you've finished eating, maybe."
no subject
Even as the waiter drops by and places a burger in front of them, and nervously looks at Gyre in case he's hungry??? The waiter shuffles off while Sxicq rotates the orb around in their hands. They're examining it, analyzing it--
And then it changes colors, becoming a bright blue like the energy that he's seen run through their body time and time again. If he tries to dispel it, it'll stay put. What did they just do?
no subject
His eyes widen a little, and he tilts his head curiously. "What are you doing to it?" he asks after a moment, reaching out to tap at the outside of the bubble.
no subject
"Fi qu."
If he actually does stab it, or try to cut it, it pops like a normal bubble. Huh.
no subject
"Like this?" he asks, reaching up and trying to cut through the bubble. He startles a little when it pops, his mouth opening very slightly. What the fuck?
"My shields don't break like that," he says, trying to offer more information if they were trying to do some kind of experiment here.
no subject
With their mouth full of burger, they make the same demand they made earlier. The words are muffled around the burger they're chewing, though, uh, gross:
"Qu iv ci, usfiiv fi." Shield bubble this again, they're getting to the bottom of this.
no subject
It takes him a second to process their words and then realize he's heard them before. They're lucky he's good with languages or he'd be lost.
"Okay," he says, putting a bubble around the plate. "I have to focus on them to keep them going. They disappear when I stop. Maybe it's the same for you?"
no subject
They drop it.
It goes through the table, splintering the wood and sending everything on the table catapulting across the aisle as the whole table tips diagonal from the impact. It drops like a bowling ball into the floor, denting into the tiles in a mess of all the pieces it had taken with it.
Sxicq, meanwhile, is looking entirely intriged down at it. They're already reaching to recover it no matter how much Gyre's freaking out.
no subject
It's too late, and the table crashes down around them. He throws a shield up across the aisle so that all the silverware and scattered plates clatter against that and shatter on the ground instead of against other people. He's utterly scattered for this moment, adrenaline making his vision swim.
It's not until he sees Sxicq reaching so casually and uncaring towards the ball that all his focus snaps to them. It doesn't matter that Five told him they're not really a child. In this moment, that's what they look like to him, an undisciplined kid thinking about their own curiosity ahead of the people around them. He reaches across the broken table and grabs their arm, squeezing it for just a moment to get their attention before he lets them go.
"Stop it. You're going to hurt people! Now, you need to let that go," he gestures towards the ball/shield, and then brings his hand up to get their attention back on him. "And you and I need to fix this."
no subject
It all gets worse when Gyre reaches out to grab their arm. It doesn't matter that he lets them go a moment later, it still leaves their attention snapped up to him and an unmistakable blue glow pulsing through their entire body just under their hard skin.
"Aj." They say, sternly, a definite negative answer to his demand.
And a moment later, Gyre will feel a gentle breeze from behind him. It's definitely the breeze from somewhere that isn't here, and if he looks: It's definitely a portal to somewhere else on the island.
Sxicq leans forward, placing a hand against his chest, to start pushing him and the booth he's in backwards towards it. They look slightly annoyed as they add:
"Qu' ecq fira fira quxal"
Any last minute attempts to make this not happen, Gyre?
no subject
It doesn't do him a whole lot of good, and right before he topples back through the portal, he uh puts a shield up over the mouth of it. He's only got the one magic, but he's going to use it to the best of his ability.
"I don't know what you're saying! But you can't just do whatever you want because you've got all this power. You're destroying the work of the people who built this place, who fed you," he nearly shouts at them, trying to get some kind of sense into their head before they inevitably force him out of this place.
no subject
When he grabs their hand, they pulse blue and leap forward into him. They collide full-body with him, shoving him through the portal with the booth too. It's like he's getting hit with an anchor, their body is a weight too big for the space it takes up.
And when they're through the portal, a tumble in the air and into the tall grass, they roll and throw him like a sack of potatoes away from them. When he gets his bearings, he'll realize that surrounding this grassy area on all sides are fields as far as the eye can see. Vegetables of all kinds, with fruit trees and bushes placed throughout the landscape. Closer to where they've landed are bigger trees, willows and others, providing shade from the strange three suns above. Wherever this is, it isn't the world that he knows.
And at the same time, it's a place he knows and has been. At his side, he'll notice that Fen has come through too and is wobbling feet-up in the grass. They need a hand. But nearby, Sxicq is standing up and dusting themselves off before looking down at Gyre.
"Raaj quivecqra."
"They said stop misbehaving." Fen mutters between their effort-filled grunts to get up.
no subject
His hand goes to his chest first, feeling the amethyst underneath his shirt. He takes brief comfort in this as he pushes himself up, only for his thoughts to scatter again as his head starts to tip off. Sxicq will get to see his head slide forward and split from his neck, smoke pouring from the sudden gap opened up. He catches himself by the hair, slumping forward over his knees as he pulls his choker off and carefully reattaches his head. How annoying! This fucking kid is pissing him off!
He's just barely wobbling to his feet, moving towards Fen when he sees their little legs flapping around above the grass, when they translate that for him. Immediately he stops in place, his eyes widening. His blood uh boils.
"Misbeha--?!" he begins, and his brain completely shorts out. He just starts screeching in his own tongue, utterly forgetting every word of Common he's ever known, "《Fucking child!! 'f you wanna destroy things like you own everything you ever touch, fuck you, people aren't toys you can run ragged just 'cause you've had something bad happen to you! That whole place was terrified of you, and you destroyed their house, you selfish brat.》
no subject
Their answer is eerily calm, no giveaway of how they're feeling as they speak to him. They stay standing several strides away from him, an utterly neutral pose as they speak.
"Qu aqci' iv fiiv. Qu' fenra."
"They said they shouldn't be here, and that they're leaving." Fen chimes in from their upside-down position in the grass.
"Ci ivfi qu iv ci quiv."
"And that your temper is gonna get you killed?" Fen adds a question mark at the end of it, not understanding apparently.
no subject
He forces himself to move, his body relaxing slowly as he goes to their side and helps them to flip over. "Are you okay?" he murmurs to them, keeping his attention on them until he's sure they're alright.
It's only once they're feeling better that he stands and glancing at Sxicq over his shoulder. "Shut up. You're going to get killed if you don't start taking a little more care," he grumbles, almost to himself.
"Why did you bring us here anyway? Is this a real place?" He honestly thought this was just a weird dream space this whole time.
no subject
Sxicq, meanwhile, watches for a moment before answering the second question.
"Ciqu qu quecq ecq ajcifi sefiv qu ecqra, ecq sefiv ciecq ra ivfi fen."
"Oh, um, they said 'This is what the other one is making, the one that dies every year'!" Fen chimes in.
"I think they mean the Wizard! Right?" They ask, looking at Sxicq hopefully. When they get a nod in response, there's an immediate radiating flower aura behind Fen's head in glee that they got it. They got it right!!
