Day 9: Morning
Morning: 6:00am - 12:00noon
[ IRL Timeframe: June 14th - Onward, 2020 ]When your characters check their phones, clocks, calendars, or any other timekeeping implement they'll find that the year is 00 AW, forty years before the present day. The year before the Wizard's first game was held, the year before it came down to only two knights and the Princess facing off against the Wizard. It was before all of it.
Everywhere your characters go, there are no people. Their devices will not connect to the internet outside of the island, their companions will not appear, the Wizard and Monsters will not answer, but they can text each other without difficulty.
Outside, the heroes will not be greeted with the sight of the sky from Day 3. The sky lacks the massive vortex over the center of the mountain. Honestly, it all looks fairly serene. The only thing that seems amiss is the rumbling of the ground, the constant feeling of an ongoing earthquake. There are no fractures in the ground yet, though, no splintering of the planet.
Because nothing has happened yet.
The Weather
- Stillness.
- 48°F
- No wind.
Prompts:
- 6:00am The Arrival, All Cities: Gyre, Olivia, and Luka arrive flat on the ground. They wake on their backs, facing up to the stars, just outside of something that has never been on the island ever before.
They're at the top of the mountain, right beside where the mysterious doors were in the current day. But right now there's a wide-open metallic stairwell. It looks unnatural, like someone copy-pasted it into place. From beneath, there's a blue glow and steam rising up from below.
Guess it's time to wake up, make a plan, and walk downstairs?- ?:00am, Unknown Location: This post will consist of one single long thread that progresses through the plot for this post. As discoveries are made, additional information will be uncovered.
Procedure:
Reply to the appropriate toplevel comments for events below. Indicate if a post is a private conversation with "Private" in the subject otherwise all threads should be open to interaction with others. Plan OOCly how you'd like to toss everyone around.

"That's... their name." He says, bewilderment evident in his voice. "It's Sxicq. They're not a disease or an infection or whatever the Protector called them."
He takes a few steps forward, still hesitant and unsure of the exact layout of his surroundings.
"They just need to leave this planet. Right?" Luka asks, looking for affirmation from the glowing anomaly itself.
no subject
"I have to collect and bring them back." They follow, eyes still very much on the crystal but they hesitate, turning down towards Luka. How does he know the things he's saying.
"How do you know their name."
no subject
Luka realizes the predicament he's put himself into isn't as simply solved as he would ideally like it to be. He obviously can't change this Wizard's mind - not here, not now - and now he's standing between their hammer and its target.
"They told me it." He explains, hoping that answer will suffice.
no subject
"It isn't a matter of want." But he gives a tidbit of juicy gossip that makes the Wizard pause, considering the man in front of them as they consider how to proceed.
"How are you able to speak to them."
no subject
He's surprised when the Wizard seems curious about his ability to interact with Sxicq. He considers the possibility that explaining might plant the seed of empathy in them.
"Well I don't know, exactly..." He shrugs sheepishly. "When they spoke, it was this really painful sound, but words came through - and over time I was able to understand them more."
no subject
"They have not spoken to me." The Wizard states, simply, before they point out the most glaring contradiction in Luka's statement.
"They have been here for only a few hours. What you are describing is unlikely to be the truth." They pause there, giving the Princess an opportunity to defend himself.
no subject
Luka doesn't want to get into the long story of how he's actually from the future. It's highly likely the Wizard wouldn't believe it, anyway.
"It is the truth..." He says, mustering up as much conviction as he can communicate. "But it's ah, complicated. I spoke with them in another time and place. A restaurant, with ice cream, specifically."
He slides that statement over the table toward the Wizard, unsure exactly how they'll receive it.
no subject
But time travel? Teleportation? Those were the easiest answers for "another time" and "another place." Also: Ice cream?
"Why are you telling me this." They decide to ask, instead, watching Luka to see how he's going to back up his latest explanation.
no subject
But, unfortunately, Luka isn't a mind-reader. He instead flusters a bit when asked to explain himself.
"I don't... know." He says, uncharacteristically unsure of himself. He knows he can't change anything here, not really. "I don't want you to hurt them. They're a person, with thoughts and opinions - like me, or you."
no subject
But he keeps adding more weight to the "maybe it's true" side of the scale. He's cast enough doubt on the situation that now they're considering it as a whole.
"They were going to destroy the planet." They choose to answer, bringing the focus of the entire situation back to the one thing they know as entirely factual in this moment. All the others could be lies, so they'd go with the truth for now.
"Which would have hurt, and killed, you, and all others. Did you know of this?"
no subject
"The planet wouldn't be destroyed instantly, though..." He tries to explain, though he knows they likely won't believe him. "There would be time to get everyone off, if you had the means. Throwing them back into the planet isn't a solution. It's just prolonging the inevitable."
no subject
"It would have." They answer, first, but the ideas he's putting out there aren't lost on them.
"Are you revealing your alleged knowledge of the future again?" They put him directly on the spot, watching him for his answer.
no subject
Luka tries to recount all his pieced-together information regarding how everything went, and will go, down. A lot of the finer details were beyond him.
"Wait, why do you say it 'would have' been instantly destroyed?" He asks. "They're out now, aren't they? And the planet's all in one piece, ah, sort of."
I mean, the cracks and stuff aren't doing Luka's argument any favors, but the planet's solid enough that everyone's not dead, right?
no subject
"They're not out." They answer, but they do glance out the window at the fractures that are nearby as he says 'sort of.'
"Approximately one half of them is out, in pieces." They correct, turning slightly towards the crystal that's very much still hanging out in the room with them.
"Pieces that have to be returned."
no subject
Luka gestures in the direction of the crystal, the one he had assumed was Sxicq themselves.
He doesn't know if the Wizard has an answer, and suspects they probably don't care. This version of them seemed more about the end than the means.
no subject
"It was the second piece to break free. It is smaller than the first but no less dangerous." They answer, glancing to the crystal again. It's gone very still, unmoving now in the room, but that ever-present static electricity hangs in the air.
"Do you not wish your planet to be saved?" They shift the conversation on Luka, turning their full gaze onto him to watch how he might react to their inquiry.
no subject
Or both. That works too.
He jerks the door open, and comes to an immediate halt when he sees Luka already here, the situation already diffused apparently.
"Princess, are you alright?" he asks automatically, glancing at the Wizard and the crystal a moment later. "Ah, I mean, is everything alright?"
no subject
Luka stops short when the chime of the door opening interrupts his thought process. He's relieved to hear that it's Gyre who'd intruded upon the scene, and not anyone more nefarious.
"Oh, Gyre!" He calls out, relief evident in his tone. "It... well, it could be better."
Luka gestures in the direction of the Wizard, addressing them again.
"These pieces can't be returned. It's not a permanent solution."
no subject
But effective.
Fortunately the Wizard is given a chance to digest the information as Gyre arrives and makes himself known. The conversation with him earlier had ended with a similar amount of confusion surrounding the strange future knowledge this group claimed to have.
"Are you here to change the future?" They decide to question, turning the table on the two heroes so they can get some answers. They don't move, not wanting to urge the crystal to try to leave and not wanting to do anything that would make these two not give them some answers.
"And if not, why are you here?" They follow. Explain yourselves, alleged time travelers.
no subject
"If we can?" he answers back, tilting his head just slightly. "I don't know if it'll work, but we have to try."
no subject
"We are!" He beams confidently. Sure, Gyre has expressed a much less certain response only seconds ago - but Luka's sure their presence here would account for some kind of influence. "Or, well, maybe we've always been here?"
Right? Maybe they were completing some kind of necessary time loop. Maybe this won't change anything at all? He puts a hand to his temple in frustration as he tries to make sense of all of the time shenanigans, but gives up shortly.
"Whatever." Luka sighs, waving a hand dismissively. Thinking about that too much was bound to lead nowhere productive. "Either way, you need to believe what we're saying."
no subject
"You can't know what you know." They repeat, unmoving, their eyes shifting between Gyre, Luka, and the crystal. They turn slightly, waving a hand towards the door. It glows for a moment before slowly creaking shut. A moment later, there's a soft blue glow in the whole room as the whole area appears to get filled with magic. The air crackles, too, heavy with whatever the Wizard is up to.
"Keep this discussion a secret. Your words have been heard." They decide to say. They have no idea what they're going to do with this information, but they can't risk this cat getting out of the bag before they know what to do with it.
no subject
His attention returns to them a moment later, and he asks, with the faintest touch of hope in his voice, "So you'll stop gathering the crystals up?"
