Day 1: Evening

Evening: 5:00pm - Midnight

[ IRL Timeframe: March 11th - March 18th, 2019 ]

The first day has come to a close, the only things left to do are get some food and get some rest. Fortunately the residents of Bamborough are hosting a party to congratulate the heroes on their first victory, unfortunately it's running for several hours this evening. There's only so much time for sleep. What kind of balance will your hero try to strike?

Unfortunately for everyone, the evil-allured knights will be treated to a rude wake-up surprise when they finally go to sleep. No matter when they finally set their head down to rest, they all wake up at the same time, in the same place. Only the evil-allured knights will have access to this post, click to see if you've been chosen.

The good-allured knights, meanwhile, are free of a visit tonight with the Princess and the Protector. The two of them, however, are due to have a chat. Questions have to be answered, after all! He's dressed in his usual attire:
He's the same height as Luka with dark skin and vivid blue eyes that match the color of the sky. He has wicked winged white eyeliner to accent his eyes and curly black hair with white tips piled on top of his head, it's a wonder how it stays up there. Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly, he's wearing a pajama robe that looks either blue or silver depending how it's touched or how it moves. Most importantly is that he's got brass knuckles on both his hands, like he's ready to fight. But he's not here to fight, he's here to give a whisper about what comes next.

First Night Event: Bamborough: Everyone invited.

The Weather

  • Starry Night.
  • 64°F / 18°C
  • Quite breezy, all the trees are rustling.

Prompts:

  • Bamborough Party: To celebrate the defeat of the first monster, a full banquet is being held near the beach in Bamborough. Unlimited food, unlimited drinks, and most importantly of all was a small stockpile of blankets, sheets, pillows, and toiletries to offer any knight who might've forgotten something on the way out here. Naturally, every item is sponsored.

  • You're all over Social Media!: Videos were successfully taken of all twelve knights and the princess during the first battle, and now the world is abuzz about what happened! What are they saying about your hero? How did they even get this footage? Or worst of all, how bad are they dissing your camera skills for those that recorded themselves?

  • A late night walk: The first day is over, the first monster is dead. How's your character holding up? Do they seek out support from a fellow hero? Do they spend it alone? What kind of night are they having now that it's all real?

  • A late night meal: Anyone leaving the Bamborough party late enough will be able to spot that a local late night ramen shop is open for business. If your hero hasn't quite eaten enough, they can drop by for a bite. But be warned, a certain sleepy villain is getting a bite to eat herself. Care to share a ramen bar meal with the enemy?

"You look as if you've been a bit scuffed up," Joanna says sympathetically, a few paces away with a plate of food in hand. She stands a little stiffly, not sure if Rory's accepting company and waiting for a nod before joining her fellow smalltown knight.

Unlike Rory, Joanna's taken no injuries, but she's got a similar worn down energy, and she isn't managing a smile yet. The very beginning of the fight was overshadowed by the arguments about who should take the lead, what strategies to use... and then some of the younger, more energetic sorts got a rush on it. It's enough to reinforce her worries about how much she'll be able to contribute.

Oh! It's her! Something about Joanna has been somehow familiar to Rory since she was doing her first research on the Knights, and she had been curious yet anxious about getting to talk to her for that reason. Despite the conflicting emotions about the whole thing, her body language is welcoming when she turns to smile at her.

"Don't worry, it's nothing!" she reassures. "Um, Joanna, right? I'm Rory. Tiger Knight."

"Joanna, yes. The... Goat Knight, fittingly enough," she says with a small smile, scraping a hoof back across the ground in demonstration. Fauns and satyrs are similar enough that it's a little bit funny, she can't lie.

She takes a seat, encouraged enough by the warm greeting, and considers Rory for a second. "Now, please, correct me if I'm wrong... but I think that I recognize you. And not in the same way as our, uh, celebrity over there."

Somewhere in the distance, Terrence may be pouring champagne at this very moment.

Rory lets out a small laugh. "Oh! Yeah, wow! I didn't even make the goat connection, that is pretty funny!" Unlike Gail, the centaur being the Horse Knight, this similarity had barely crossed her mind. Faun-type beings were such a norm in her everyday life that it was not something she paid a lot of attention to.

Except, of course, when it was one of the reasons the other Knight had felt so familiar. She's so relieved to hear she wasn't alone in that feeling.

"But... wow, right? I know what you mean! You aren't from [Village Name], are you?!"

i like to imagine she's pronouncing those brackets

"Ah, so it was you!" Joanna clasps her hands together, delighted she'd been right in recognizing the young troll.

The odds of anyone from their town being chosen were already astonishingly low, given its size compared to the world's population. But two from the same town...

"Not originally, but... Maybe as long as you've been alive?" She guesses, and continues on without a pause long enough to pressure Rory to answer her age. "A couple decades. Close enough for government work, and all that."

don't call me out like this

"Haha, yeah! That sounds like I would have been really small if I was alive at all back then!" Rory takes a moment to think about what context exactly she knew Joanna from. If only she was more outgoing back home! Spending most of her time on the farm meant she didn't exactly fit the stereotype of everyone in small villages knowing each other. That being said, they had definitely crossed paths before. But where...

"What kind of work do you do?"

"I run a small bookshop, tucked between some larger shops about... oh, halfway up Main street. You may not have seen it very much..."

Her shop is the only bookshop in town, but as hanging around reading doesn't exactly seem Rory's pace, Joanna isn't surprised by the question. She pushes some food around on her place, reading a bite, and tilts her head.

"You're from... That bee farm, isn't it?"

"Oh, no no," she lets out a small laugh, "that's a common misconception! My ma's allergic to bee stings, we could never have them! It was a joke at her wedding to my pa, though, a surname like that..." She's still chuckling when she finishes the story.

"I think I've seen the bookshop!! Not much of a reader, though... But I'll check it out more closely when we get out of here, alright?" she gives her a thumbs up. "If you're still going to be running it after this whole knight thing, that is."

[personal profile] fauntofwisdom 2019-05-21 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Joanna laughs along with the story, having heard something like that, too, but never being sure what was the truth. It's a funny story, one that speaks well to their relationship.

"Oh, I'm sure I will be. I'm not one for loftier aspirations, and, well..." She looks to the side, her smile flickering for a moment but ultimately coming back to full force. "I couldn't leave it."

"I know what you mean! I think I'd have a hard time leaving the farm, too," Rory muses. "It was hard to even come here! Even though I've been dreaming of this since I started watching Wizard Season!" Of course, actually being here on the island felt more real than it did in her daydreams, but, well. It's only the first evening, not much of Rory's idealism has had the chance to fade just yet.

"But maybe I'll use the fame and money to help renovate the farm... We could get all sorts of fancy tools, wow!"

"I could say the same," Joanna laughs again softly. She'd never truly imagined being here, not in the pragmatic details, but the ambiguous and idealized thought of representing their world, proving their worth for another year of life? That's come to mind before.

"I'm sure you could get more than a few fancy tools, with... well." She blinks and stares into the distance. "There's going to be tourists, with two of us here." People touring the origins of the knights, at the least. Pilgrims, even. "Our town might end up on real maps... It's... a little unreal, isn't it...?"
