Day 2: Monster Arrival
Afternoon: 12:00noon - Evening
[ IRL Timeframe: April 1st - April 14th, 2019 ]Unfortunately for the heroes, only one of them has an easy time when the monsters arrive. In the history of the wizard fights, it was rare but not unheard of for multiple monsters to arrive. Years 12, 22, and 30 had featured three of a monster but only one was real. Year 9 had featured the tenth monster as ten individuals that all came together into one. And, most strangely, years 4, 13, 26, and 37 had featured a monster that had an active and an inactive body.
This year, the second monster appears in two places.
The first arrives in Craydon, its massive body just a ball of metallic spikes with two bright orange eyes in the middle. It looks like a massive urchin, its body easily close to ten feet across where it's sitting on the train tracks ahead of the train arriving. Its spikes stick out easily another ten feet in every direction, making it a gigantic terrifying ball. The party train's arrival to its 12:25pm destination ends with the conductor locking up the brakes to bring the train to a stop. This sucks!
The second arrives in Bamborough, its massive body easily sixty feet up in the air suspended atop dozens of small, thin metallic spikes for legs. Its two orange eyes scan down at the world below, its spherical body covered in smaller spike nubs on all other sides. The eyes aren't fixed in place, either, and they're scanning the oceanfront as it moves around. It's definitely looking for something and it's visible for miles. Good luck, everyone!
Monster Fight Opportunity: Bamborough: Haizea, Seth, Garrot, Gail, Zafika, Terrence, Matilda.
The Weather
- Windy.
- 61°F / 16°C
- The trees are rustling, leaves flowing through the air.
Prompts:
- 12:25pm Train Arrival: The party train comes to its final destination in Craydon at 12:25pm. The reason that it's a final destination is due to the monster on the tracks. Oh god, it's right there? Oh god, oh GOD??? When the train comes to a screeching halt, all the non-heroes quickly scamper out of the train to flee for safety. Good luck, heroes!
- 12:30pm, Ramen, Far Haven: Social Media is abuzz that the Wizard has left the power plant and has gone to one of the chain ramen restaurants in Far Haven. The restaurant is known for its decent ramen, but everyone knows it can't compare to the local shops around the island. This is the "I just want to eat" ramen restaurant. But more importantly, this one has some sports bar qualities and has TVs up on the walls to watch. The Wizard is here, seated close to one of the TVs, and she's watching the events unfolding in Craydon and Bamborough. How is she doing that? Who's recording?
- 12:30pm, The Bamborough Monster: Out on the waterfront boardwalk, the monster is lumbering its way along the wooden walkways seemingly in search of something. The few shops that were open are closing up as quickly as possible, the last thing they need is their already minimal business ruined by a visit from this monster. Please, someone come help.

And then suddenly there's a wild Garrot between the monster and Haizea and then suddenly there's...two Garrots??!! What.
The annoyed scowl gets him to mirrow it with his own though, rude, he's been doing his best, and quite a good job here, as he disconnects the wires he's sprouting, to make new ones while the monster is still dazed from the lighting that hit it.
These ones he sends to wrap around the pillar once for support, go under the railing on the boardwalk, then around to wrap around the dazed monster.
And then without waiting, the moment the wires are around the monster he starts retracting fast, wincing and gritting his teeth since the speed is pretty painful on his fingers but this is kind of a life or death situation here, and his set-up works like a pulley system and just, pulls the monster over the railing, and sploosh into the ocean, at which point Seth lets the wires disconnect again, gingerly putting his phone away to his bag so he can rest his sore fingers and look how badly he managed to hurt his left palm. The answer was pretty bad, you could easily see all the pretty deep cuts from the wires cutting into his palms when he was retracting them while holding onto them without any protection.
At least he's relatively dry since he was under the roof the pillars held up the whole time.

Which is to say that by the time Seth is working his wire magic, the monster's sense of where it is and what it's trying to not do are totally confused and-
-and then it's just underwater.
A few moments after the monster hits the ocean, bubbles form up around its body on all sides. The bubbles are replaced by this thick, awful, viscous foam a few moments later. Then, as if the second monster was just a bomb, it explodes in the water. Massive chunks of horrible neon green goo mixed in with ocean saltwater splash down all over the boardwalk. No one is safe from the deluge of horrible blood saltwater, they all get soaked in it. Lime, copper, wood shavings, scrambled eggs, and ocean scent all mix together and soak into everyone's clothes. Enjoy that nightmare, knights!

“I’m fine, I’m fine,” she mumbles, just in time for the monster to explode out of the ocean in a shower of seawater and blood. The seawater she likes, the blood not so much. The rain she summoned earlier hasn’t let up and she’s not about to make it stop, hopefully that’ll clean up the blood a little bit at least.
“So... I guess we won?”
no subject
Taking off the glove he gives it to Qus, since he doesn't need it now. Sorry Qus, he is not dealing with cleanign up the glove so uh, you gotta deal with that.
He'd probably type something snarky out of annoyance at Haizea, or sign, but his fingers hurt, and so does his left palm, which now stings super badly too.
no subject
"Yeah we did, Zea!" He sounds sarcastic. Furious. The original Garrot, the one holding the poleaxe, disappears into a cloud of golden-bronze dust and takes the weapon with him. The doctoring Garrot is undaunted by this. "And I'm gonna have to redo these fucking dressings 'cause of that spiky fuck, or they'll get infected!" Garrot is so mad, this is making his job so much more difficult than it needs to be! But then he sees Seth, and-
"What the fuck, kid?!" He's yelling, sorry Haizea's ears. "What do you gotta worry about if you can do brutal shit like that!?" This is the closest grumpy Garrot will get to a compliment, but it's still pretty overt. That said, he's putting his attention more towards Haizea's head wound since she, well, collapsed.
no subject
At least the rain is doing a decent job of washing away most of the blood, and Haizea noticed her naginata is lodged in the wood of the boardwalk some distance away. It must have been shot out of the water along with all the other monster bits.
“Are... the others okay? There were two monsters, right?”
no subject
He's soon too busy gritting his teeth though because ow, ow his fingers and palm hurt, shouldn't have done that, no it's not anywhere near as bad as what Haizea's going through but he's a wimp so...
Haizea definitely gets some more respect and likability points though for trying to get Garrot off his back. Basically all he did was what Haizea told him and...panic. He doesn't really even coherently remember the last 10 minutes or so, it's kind of becoming a blur now that he's slowly edging out of the panic.
no subject
"Goodness, is everyone qui-" is all Terrence manages to get out before the rabbit knight is hit with the smell. It causes him to visibly retch momentarily before he can regain composure and turn back to the others, lifting the collar of the jumpsuit over his nose and mouth like a makeshift gas mask. His own sweat isn't exactly appealing either, but certainly more so than that. A cough, "For anyone exceedingly injured, I believe I may have an idea..."
no subject
"I'm all ears!" Garrot utters the words, and after a beat stifles a laugh. His ears are big, but not as big as Terrence's. "I mean, I guess you are too." Because jokes are good. Jokes defuse tension. Maybe it'll help things now that he's gesturing for both Seth and Terrence to get closer to Haizea and himself.
Medicine takes time, and he's more than a little worried about Haizea. It's only the second day...
no subject
When Terrence shows up she feels happy and embarrassed all over again, more people here to see her looking weak!!! This sucks!!
"I'll hear it, but I'm sure I'm fine, just got a few scrapes," she says, stubbornly, "Using lightning was tough, but I've gotten hurt worse before." This is true, but her arm and head definitely need stitches at least. Not to mention the blood she's lost over the course of the fight.
no subject
Seth barely seems to really even register Terrence's arrival. He's...kind of half-spacing out to be quite honest. The adrenaline rush is wearing off and leaving his mind crawling at a snail's pace.
Which now mostly occupied with the struggle of wanting to go near Haizea because he was worried...and wanting to suffle as far away from Garrot as possible because he was still pretty much afraid of Garrot blowing up on him and delivering another verbal beat down.
In the end he ends up slinking closer, but kind of...making sure to keep Haizea between him and Garrot.
no subject
"Well, my power isn't just about making others stronger... The way Sucecq spoke of it, it seems I can supercharge nearly any single aspect of someone. I, ah... Have no idea what exactly it will do, but I believe I could boost your body's natural healing faculties to recover much more rapidly! There's always a drawback with my ability, however..."
While Terrence has been considering this possibility since yesterday, he's genuinely not sure if it will even work at all let alone what the drawback will be. Still, something that helpful is worth finding out, right? Haizea hardly seems the type to be scared of only potential complications.
no subject
"And what if that drawback's harmful to her?" Garrot's turned a bit more clinical in tone now, but he's still pretty grouchy. "I still need to redress her head and clean up her shoulder, and she's lost some blood. It could be dangerous."
But then his eyes go back to Seth, who gets to deal with the doctor's scrutinizing gaze. Garrot sees the cuts, which would match where those wires were, and it takes all of his willpower not to roll his eyes at Seth's self-destructive power. If he can't use his hands then he can't communicate and he'll freak out and probably die. Can't have that.
"Hey!" Garrot pulls out a pair of medical wipes from his kit and waves them in the air. "You wanna come clean your hands up and be our Lab Rat Knight?" Jokes. Jokes! That said, he sees how Haizea is sticking up for the kid, so he looks to her as if awaiting her approval. Her injuries are more severe...
no subject
"As long as it fixes me up, I can handle any other drawback," she says, almost flippantly. But when Seth gets near and she sees his hands, she gestures at him. "Fix him first, though. I ain't gonna get more hurt, but he can't talk until his hands are better."
This is something of an exaggeration, please bandage her injuries up to stop the bleeding at least. She's a big idiot about medical stuff and constantly underestimates how much help she needs due to her high pain tolerance.
no subject
Don't get him wrong though, he is very much interested in getting his hands fixed and is concerned for Haizea so, someone else being tried the power on first would make sense...though Haizea also clearly needs at least some medical attention immediately too...
With a nervous sigh he comes to sit down near Haizea, well more of a squat really. He's still very stubbornly keeping Haizea between himself and Garrot though, looking at the Monkey Knight nervously, almost fearfully as he turned his hands around so his palms were facing upwards. His right hand was fine except for his terribly sore fingers, but his left palm was certainly messed up and filled with deep and shallow cuts, and reddish from the wires scraping against it at a rather fast speed.
no subject
"I've had enough practice with it at this point that I'm fairly confident," the rabbit lies through this perfect, shiny teeth. Thankfully he's become rather good at lying after being the PR face of a huge corporation for most of his life. "This'll be fine!"
Terrence as always begins the ritual by placing his palms together for a second before opening them up and placing both on Seth's closest shoulder. By now he's discovered that it doesn't really matter where he touches them, as long as he does. The usual yellowish-tan concentric circles flow from his body into Seth's.
At first, it won't feel like much of anything, but gradually the other man's wounds will tingle slightly, then feel... Cool..? Like a scrape or a cut you've had a bandage over for a few hours then finally remove to let it air out - that complex sensation washes over his entire hand.
However, that pleasant feeling is quickly overtaken by a distant-yet-sharp soreness, like the injury is being experienced all over again inside of a waking dream. Speaking of, Seth will paradoxically begin to feel tired. Not enough to actually fall asleep sitting up, but as if the last dregs of adrenaline have finally drained entirely and even taken a bit more with them for good measure. During all of this, Seth's wounds will rapidly scab over in a timeframe that can actually be observed in real time, like watching one of those hypersensitive timelapse camera videos. Only a moment later, the scabs will seemingly melt back into a natural skin tone, and before the group's eyes, Seth's hand looks completely unharmed (if still a bit dirty).
As the healing comes to a close, any pain fades with it, but the sleepfulness remains. In fact, it's joined with... Hunger? Regardless of the last time Seth has actually eaten, it now feels as if it has been hours.
"See? Told you!"
oh thank god that worked
no subject
And so the doctor stares in awe, barring a light gasp once the wounds begin to close. It's magic, so of course it's a medical miracle, but Garrot sure wishes he could figure out how to do this mundanely. That'd change so many lives!
But as soon as Terrence's last proclamation is made, Garrot wraps an arm around him, and he's just laughing because, well, "Holy shit, that's so cool!" Hope you like an aggressive sideways hug, Mr. Torrence. Seth, on the other hand, gets to deal with Garrot's other hand, one clawed finger poking at his palms and where some of those cuts were.
"Can you feel this? Does it hurt? Do you have full range of motion again?" And then he just quietly gasps to himself, grinning ear-to-ear because this is still just so amazing! The poking will continue, because Lab Rat Knight. At least it's not in a mean way!
But he has completely forgotten about Haizea and her open, bleeding wounds. Oops.
no subject
When she sees Seth's hands are completely healed, though, she lets out a low whistle. "Damn, Terrence, you really did the damn thing, huh? You got enough juice for one more? Though..." she trails off when Garrot starts examining Seth's hands and then yanks on his assuredly monster soaked shirt.
"Give the boy some space, G. He can't even tell you to cut it out with you grabbin' at his hands like that. Besides, you want me to clean these cuts out myself or what?"
no subject
He was nervous when Garrot reached to clean his hands up, but was then in for some whiplash as he remained completely professional and even...kind(???!), during the whole process. Considering what their last interaction had been like this was just trippy.
Then comes the whole 'Lab Rat Knight' part as Garrot so rudely and rather infiruatingly put it, seriosly, he wasn't a Lab Rat to do as they wished with! In any case, he starts getting nervous when Terrence puts his hand together, not at all knowing what to expect. He almost jumps when Terrence puts his hands on his shoulders but in the end just tenses and...then soon his hands feel cool and oh that's actually kind of pleasant and- OWOWOWOW!
That hurts, oh my god, no, stop, he wants to bail, let's not do this after all-
Seth would definitely have yelled if he wasn't mute, but instead he just weirdly opens his mouth for the duration while his face scrunches up in pain-
And then almost as suddenly as it started the pain stops and he's just left feeling exhausted and starved.
The sleepiness he doesn't really mind, he's used to remaining up for ridiculously long periods of time. The hunger he minds more, mainly because he's used to eating several small meals instead of a few larger ones, and he can tell that even after getting some food in himself he won't stop being hungry until maybe the 2nd one.
At least it was over.
He was about to look curiously at his hand and test out his fingers, except suddenly there's a Garrot jabbing and grabbing at his hands and that absolutely freaks him out. For crying out loud Garrot is absolutely acting like he really is a lab rat right now! And it's not like he could even answer his questions if he wanted to with Garrot's poking.
So when Haizea yanks on Garrot to pull him back and tells him to stop that he's just absolutely relieved. Once he has his hands to himself again, he gingerly tests out how well he can move his hands, and is delightfully surprised that it doesn't hurt at all, no matter how he moves them, well within the realms of normal hand movement of course.
Since he can now communicate, he fingerspells a small sentence to Haizea, a small smile on his face. T-h-a-n-k y-o-u, t-h-a-t w-a-s j-u-s-t o-b-n-o-x-i-o-s.
He also, after a moment, remembered to give a thankful nod to Terrence.
Though once Haizea was taken care of too, he had a clear plan.
1. Go back home, and clean up.
2. EAT
3. Sleep for several hours.
no subject
"Yes, well, we still want you cleaned up first," he says in a surprisingly authoritative tone as if he actually knows. Would injuries just become infected and get even worse if they weren't tended to first? He has no idea! Woo!
While he can understand Garrot's fascination, Terrence can definitely sense the rat knight's exhaustion even if he doesn't feel it himself. "You'll have plenty of time to poke at patients later, doctor... Especially since this was only the second monster." Er. Hm. Terrence hadn't actually intended to remind them all of the growing danger, so instead he cuts off any potential response with some humor of his own, "But I believe we should vacate to a nicer locale as soon as you're tended to, yes? This scent alone is about to kill me!"
no subject
"I've got some noseplugs if you need 'em, we can't have you dying on us, Mr. Torrence!" Garrot follows up with a wry little laugh before grabbing two more medical wipes and giving Haizea his full attention. He whispers out another "This might sting a little" before sterilizing her shoulder wound even more gingerly than he'd handled Seth's. Then he follows up with the head laceration, wiping down about half of her head and scrubbing at the edges of her existing wrapping. He'll touch that up afterwards. The whole process takes a minute, tops.
"Whenever you two are ready." The words are about as confident as they can be since he saw Seth's wounds heal like they were nothing. Zea shouldn't start bleeding out, and if anything goes wrong he's right here. She'll be fine. And he trusts Terrence with this! But he's not moving, he's staying right here. Just in case.
no subject
"Ah, hang on one minute, before I forget," she says, then calls Fumicq. She points at her naginata lodged in the boardwalk some distance away and has them change it back into a brass knuckle, which she then slips into her pocket for safe keeping. It wouldn't do to leave her weapon behind, right?
"Alright," she looks at Terrence and nods, "do your thing!"
no subject
He...couldn't help but both admire and be a little jealous of how well Haizea was taking and handling all of this though. And she was way more hurt too! He wished he could be as cool and collected as her even half the time...
He hoped she'd be okay soon enough.
no subject
Alley-oop, once again..! Haizea will feel much the same sensations as Seth and in much the same order, except that the tiredness won't stop. In fact, it only continues to grow - even as the stabbing pain of her wounds throbs, the desire to sleep outpaces it until eventually, even one with willpower as strong as her own cannot resist.
Although slower, the wounds are still closing up just as before, so it doesn't seem like anything has gone wrong, really, but Terrence is still a bit surprised as his patient passes out and, uh. Isn't responding. At all. At least not to his voice or multiple light paps to the face! Her pulse and breathing are still present, however, and if anything seem to have stabilized and improved, so that's good..?
"Right, well, like I said it is one's own natural healing, so... More dire injuries obviously require rest even when sped up!" Terrence is maintaining his facade of confidence, at least, which should hopefully keep anyone else from panicking. This makes sense to him, it's just bizarre putting someone into a healing coma for the first time and all. Assuming that's what actually just happened.
no subject
“W...” she tries to speak, but finds she’s lost the energy to do even that. As her eyelids lose the ability to stay open, she feels a jolt of panic as she realizes what’s about to happen; she’s going to pass out. She’s going to pass out and become completely vulnerable in front of people she wants to respect her, people she’s already begun to think of as comrades.
‘This sucks,’ is her last coherent thought before she loses consciousness completely.
