Day 2: Evening
Evening: 5:00pm - Midnight
[ IRL Timeframe: April 14th - April 22nd, 2019 ]Unfortunately for everyone, the second day's events are far less rewarding than the first day's. Now that things are starting to get real, there are consequences for what's taken place. Both monsters caused a bit of damage and a mess with their departure, but the locals on the island are trying to stay positive. Sometimes things just get messy, they've dealt with this for forty years it's fine.
But the heroes are sure to have a lot on their mind. Injuries mean it's less of a game and more likely to sink in as real. How will your hero cope tonight? The Princess and her two knights are due for a rendezvous with the Protector and, on the other hand, there are some evil-allured knights due for some private time with the Wizard. What will come of that?
The Weather
- Still.
- 61°F / 16°C
- An eerie calm has fallen over the island.
Prompts:
- 05:00pm Clean-up Crews: Both Bamborough and Craydon were left with big neon-green splashes of blood that aren't going to just wash off. Numerous locals in both areas are hard at work cleaning up after the second monsters, scrubbing at buildings and assessing the damage to the island. In Bamborough, the locals are hard at work trying to salvage the damage to the boardwalk or put up caution tape around the destroyed areas. Is your hero lending a hand in all this? Is someone else helping? Bond over picking up the pieces, but hey... it could be worse, right?
- 5:30pm, Craydon: Despite being largely untouched by the monster's arrival, the citizens of Craydon have dropped by the train station to check in on the heroes. Anyone in the area will be given a small care package of items and offered a free coupon for any restaurant in the area. Will your hero go alone and run into someone who was craving the same food they were, or will they team up with their fellow heroes to drop by a restaurant together? Everyone needs to unwind, after all!
- 5:30pm, Bamborough: Despite the boardwalk damage, the Bamborough oceanfront diner is offering 'monster margaritas' tonight. They're set up as an open-air bar tonight, doors and windows open to let in the cool sea air. Every hero gets their first monster margarita free if they can stomach the bright green color, and they've got deep fried bar foods for half off. Come in, indulge, have a drink to get your mind off of the events of the day, heroes!
- 5:30pm, Far Haven: The Far Haven clinic has advertised that its doors are open to any hero injured, or just in need of a check-up, for the rest of the evening. They want to check in on all the heroes and make sure they're okay. Did your hero come alone and run into someone here? Or did they come together to get stitched up? Or maybe they just need to be reassured that everything will be okay.
- 8:30pm, 9:05pm, 9:40pm, Train station(s): As always, Social media is incredibly quick to report Wizard appearances. At 8:00pm they report that the Wizard is waiting for the train in Bamborough station. She does, in fact, board the train at 8:30pm and they start theorizing where her destination is. Social media points out that her train will be arriving in Craydon at 9:05pm, then it will get to Far Haven by 9:40pm. If a hero tries to find her when the train arrives back in the Bamborough station at 10:15pm, though, the train will be empty. Where will your hero find her? Bamborough between 8 and 8:30pm? On the train in Craydon at 9:05pm? Or when she disembarks in Far Haven at 9:40pm?

"Get me two more of these, please?" He gestures towards the monster margarita, before snatching up a mozzarella stick from the place next to him. "And if any other Knights or the Princess show up, they're on my tab!" Those words are shouted, and with the grace of a trainwreck, Garrot shoves a deep fried cheese tube into his mouth, downs the entire margarita in one breath, and then eats two more cheese tubes.

However, after giving up on finding any hotels that looked safer than her last one, she stopped by the bar and had downed one monster margarita —which, to her delight, matched the dried green gore on her person perfectly—, when she heard someone loudly exclaim they'd pay for Knight's drinks. Her eyes spotted the source not too far from her, and although the two hadn't talked yet, she recognized Garrot as a fellow Knight.
She hesitates for a moment, looking down at her blood-splattered self. In the blink of an eye, her appearance changed a few times as she considered how to approach him before finally... deciding not to use her masking powers at all. He's a Knight, after all, he'll probably understand her current situation, right? She can't possibly look much worse than usual, anyway. She approaches him, careful not to bump into any other people, tail wrapped around one of her legs.]
Hey...! Um, I don't think we've been properly introduced? I'm the Ox Knight. Olivia. [She says, a well-practiced friendly smile on her lips.]
no subject
"Nice to meet you, Olivia!" The exclamation is loud, almost excited, as he stands up, reaching a hand out for a handshake. Nevermind that he's over seven feet tall and also covered in monster blood. Or that he's shirtless and covered in tattoos, with a red-and-green soaked tank top balled up at the base of his chair. At least his sweatpants look like he rolled around in moss.
"I'm Dr. Murtakhor, the Monkey Knight!" A beat passes as he looks down at his not-doctorly appearance, and he just chuckles. "But you can call me Garrot. Please." Don't be formal with him, he might die. "It looks like Craydon team was doing alright, but how are you?"
Is it small talk or a wellness check? We just don't know.

She focuses on his smile when he chuckles, giving him a surprised one back as he mentions his profession. She thinks its nice; she likes the big chompers. She barely has time to wonder whether he'd find it offensive if she copied them for herself, when his question catches her off guard. He's not, like, a mental health type of doctor, is he?] I, uh, I'm goo—I didn't get hurt! If that's what you're asking.
Um, our fight was pretty easy, actually! Not much of a fight at all, really. Messy, but... [She can't help but giggle as she struggles a little to unstick her hand to Garrot's. She had washed them in a hurry at some public bathroom, but there was just something about monster blood that didn't quite leave until after the second shower.] Did your monster burst too, or...?
no subject
[ But then he sighs, gesturing towards the seat next to him. ] You wanna sit down? Bet you're tired. And hungry. [ And he just. Slides the plate of mozzarella sticks a little closer to that seat. He's smiling of course, trying to figure out what she's up to with all the smiling and staring. Maybe she didn't do any research, like damn near all of their allies?! ]
no subject
So, wait, the monster exploded when it touched the water? I didn't know that was a thing... [She looks down at herself. She wasn't too much of a Science Gal but maybe it'd been the blood? Her imagination runs wild as she takes a moment to eat her snack. Washing her hands had gone without incident but who knows what would happen if she took a bath!] Are we like, volatile right now?
no subject
But yeah, of course I'm paying, we've all earned it! [ Garrot pumps a fist in the air while the other tosses a mozzarella stick into his mouth. In about three seconds, his beastly teeth have shredded the thing and he swallows what's left. His eyes, however, are clearly sizing Olivia up. She definitely doesn't seem to know who he is. ] Have you...
[ Garrot shifts in his seat, rotating so his sweatpants' legs are a bit more visible in the bar lights. ] ...ever heard of MurtaCorp? The little medical company. [ He's understating, the company is huge. And his pants have their logo on them and given how large he is they must be tailor-made. ] Hospitals. Stuff like that. [ They own multiple hospitals around the world, in fact. If she's seen a doctor at all in her life, she's probably come in contact with their tech. Or seen articles about cutting-edge medical procedures. ]
Ring any bells? [ Garrot looks like the
catbugbear that ate thecanarybacon pile. Please make him stop this stupid farce, Olivia. ]no subject
MurtaCorp? Oh, yeah, I might have a band-aid or two with their logo in my bag. Why'd you ask?
no subject
I miiiiight be their Head of Research and Development. [ He looks a little smug at that, and after a beat he just raises and eyebrow and smirks. People always know who he is, so Garrot never gets to do this weird and entirely unnecessary flex anymore! ] Sometimes I get paid to blow stuff up.
[ And honestly, he just hopes she can connect Dr. Murtakhor with MurtaCorp. That one usually takes people a while. ]

That aside, he eyeballs her since they are at a bar. Garrot didn't even know she drank! ...Should she drink, if she could get sloshed and teleport somewhere bad? He has so many questions, so he'll start with an obvious one!
"How are you doing? Having a good time?" They're legitimate, earnest questions, and it's as he asks them that Garrot realizes how bone-breaky he'll get if anyone's keeping Miss Hamilton from having a good time. Plus he's a little surprised she's even here, this place doesn't seem upscale enough for her.
no subject
She beams at nods at him when he asks how she’s doing, giggling as the motion makes her feel a little woozy. “It’s nice! I’m glad they’re doing this.” Not just for the knights— but for all of the islanders who lived in Bamborough too. She twirls the little novelty umbrella from her drink, trying to hold back her smile. “I’m tired, but it’s nice to see everyone relax and have a good time.”
no subject
But then a snarkly little smirk skitters onto Garrot's face as he tilts his head towards Matilda and gives her a look. "Y'know, I didn't know you knew how to relax!" But he is giving her a bit more scrutiny since she said she was tired.
no subject
“Did you get to the monster in time to see us? Zafika and I? It was so amazing!”
no subject
"I didn't..." That's not a lie. "But I heard it! It sounds like you two really did a number on that bastard, and I saw a lot of blood on the boardwalk!" The last part isn't a lie, he just avoided all of the details she's excited for.
"Wanna tell me about it?" Garrot smiles cheekily at his little buddy, because for someone as worry-prone as she is to be doing hair-flips and all this means she's growing up! From an absurd human disaster to... well, a normal one? Maybe there's hope for her yet. His inner snark aside, the doctor does look incredibly interested in whatever she's willing to share.
no subject
"--But I helped! I got us up on its head, and we'd poke it with our weapons, and then I'd teleport us away before it could poke us with its spikes! And then we did it again, and again, and-- We poked a lot of tiny holes in it."
no subject
"If you stabbed it and you did the teleporting..." He raises an eyebrow, and that grin looks like he's got a conspiracy theory. "...Then you did most of the work, and they helped!" He's not trying to shit-talk his friend, especially since they have a dinner date later that night, but he knows Zafika couldn't get up their on their own. Matilda was the crux of their whole operation! He'll have to ask his assassin pal how things went later.
"You're great at this Knight thing, Matilda!" And then he offers her one of the most coveted symbols of approval: the high five. The more confident she is in her abilities, the less of a liability she'll be... as long as she doesn't get arrogant. Also he just really wants to see her be proud of herself and her accomplishments.

"Do you want that?" he asks, nudging the drink towards him.
no subject
"Well..." He arches an eyebrow and wears a cocky little smirk. There's no way it's the alcohol, it's barely even hit his stomach. "When someone gets someone else a free drink in a bar, they're usually flirting." And he just chuckles, getting right back on his bullshit from the night before. Kids aren't around, flirt incessantly! But the demeanor fades away immediately for something more jovial and... concerned?
"Plus, like, do you want it?" He squints, mimicking Gyre's curiosity. "Do wild elves even make booze?" But his hand does... slowly gravitate... towards that drink... because it's free... and he can take it as flirting... and mess with Gyre more...
no subject
He seems thoughtful after that though, folding his arms on the table so that the blanket is looped more loosely around his shoulders. If he noticed Garrot's flirting, he doesn't indicate it at all, pointing over the other's shoulder. He looks mystified as he watches one of the bartenders.
"Is that why he gave it to me? Flirting?"
no subject
"No, it's their job. Bartenders make drinks for people!" And he nods sagely, mostly oblivious that Gyre could have trouble grasping the idea of a job. "And since you're a Knight, that first one..." Garrot takes it, dumps the entire thing into his mouth, and then places it back on the table. Super casual. "...is free of charge!" Then he blinks for a moment, before faintly smiling.
"Well, everything's free for us tonight, thanks to me!" As much as he wants to give Matilda props for contributing half of the tab, the fewer factors there are in his explanation the better. And to think he would've lied about all of that if he wasn't trying to be Friends with Gyre.
no subject
Instead his eyes go to the empty glass, and he blinks at it a few times. "You drank it already?" He reaches out to grab the glass, bringing it up to his nose and smelling it? He winces as the alcohol burns his nostrils, grimacing up at Garrot. "That's... a lot of alcohol isn't it? It smells bad."
no subject
"So people with different body types and health and weight levels... their biological sex and even what's in their stomach, it all means their bodies process alcohol differently." He nods, slipping away from his goober persona into something composed and... respectable?! "Matilda, she's a tiny little thing so she can't have a lot without feeling it. But me? I'm big, strong guy with bugbear genes, and it turns out bugbear bodies can deal with poisonous garbage a lot better than most normal people." Garrot exhales, and it might be odd to see him not trying to make jokes or mess with people. Is there a full moon or something?
So he takes a mozzarella stick and eats it. Best not to drink on an empty stomach, after all!
no subject
"That seems like a lot of trouble," he murmurs. "I'd rather go smoking." He says it with this sly grin, winking. He knows weed is taboo for some people, and he's very curious how this weird dude is gonna respond to the suggestion.
"It's certainly an easier way to flirt. No extra pieces," he says, and he rolls the bottom of the glass around on the table almost playfully.
no subject
"But I think you're a good enough flirt already, Gyre." It's cheeky, and he can't help but snort out a little chuckle. "Don't wanna make it unfair for everyone else."
