Day 3: Evening

Evening: 5:00pm - Midnight

[ IRL Timeframe: June 16th to June 26th July 3rd, 2019 ]

No matter when the heroes defeated their monsters, or when the sixth monster was defeated and there were none left, everyone will be treated to an unfortunately familiar feeling. The world of the past will fade, slowly at first but gradually increasing in pace until they pass out to blackness.

Everyone will wake up on a beach, and not a beach in the town their residence is in. Looks like everyone will need to take the train back home or go for a really, really long walk.

More unsettling than that is that every hero will either have a decent suntan or a mild sunburn. Social media is abuzz with comments about the island "going still" and the knights "dead on the beaches". There are reports that all twelve knights and the princess were all defeated at the same time and left on the beaches as an advertisement that the world was over this year.

Naturally, the heroes will realize that they are not, in fact, dead. Better do some damage control, there. Anyone who tried to make any recordings in the past will find that the files are corrupted and unavailable. Looks like whatever happened is going to... stay in the past.

The heroes who are due for an evening visit in the Princess' Dream Citadel or in The Wizard's House will arrive there the moment they sleep.

The Weather

  • Warmer than yesterday.
  • 77°F / 25°C
  • Everyone's in a bit of a panic!

Prompts:

  • 05:00pm Beach Wake-up Call: Every hero will wake up laying on the wet sand of the beach. There's waves gently lapping at them, waking them up slowly from their abrupt return from the past. Everyone will feel a little groggy and their clothes will be uncomfortably crusted in sand. Here's to hoping that saltwater and sand will wash out? Make sure to remove the little crabs that have started crawling over you!

  • 5:00pm, Craydon: The residents of Craydon are all safely at home up the mountain by now. The only people still lingering around the Craydon beaches are fishermen working to prepare for their sunset runs. The offshore cages aren't going to empty themselves, after all! Fortunately this means they have, and can offer, blankets and hot drinks while they're heading out. It's not much, but they're here to help. At least the heroes are hopefully not alone?

  • 5:00pm, Bamborough: The residents of Bamborough are really just the locals, concerned for the future of the world and of the heroes. Instead of waking up alone, they'll find little boxes of dry towels and bottled water beside them. Looks like the residents were pretty sure they were going to wake up at some point because they've left little kits to help them wake up with. It's not much, but it's better than nothing. The boardwalks of Bamborough are empty, with not a single soul out and about. The local shops, though, are pretty much business as usual. They'll immediately bustle in excitement when the heroes show themselves. Also: Free showers near the beach boardwalks! Better get all that crusty sand cleaned off.

  • 5:00pm, Far Haven: The city of Far Haven is simultaneously the most cold and impersonal and the most immediately helpful. Each hero in Far Haven will wake up with a little walkie talkie beside them. If they pick it up and reach out, they'll be immediately told to come to the Far Haven hospital for immediate medical assistance. Once there, they'll be offered a free shower, water, hydration, a medical checkup, and a free coupon for the Craydon hot springs. There are even little kits set out for the knights in other towns. But... there's no one to bring them to the other towns, whoops. Guess they're carry-out only?

  • 5:35pm onward, Train station(s): The train has a pretty reliable schedule for the evening, ending in Far Haven at 11:25pm. One way or another, the train is going to be how your hero makes their way back home to sleep for the night. Will the ride be uneventful, or will it be spent with others?

    Bamborough: 6:45pm, 8:30pm, 10:15pm.
    Craydon: 7:20pm, 9:05pm, 10:50pm.
    Far Haven: 6:10pm, 7:55pm, 9:40pm, 11:25pm.

  • 6:00pm, Bamborough: In the outdoor seating area of Slyder's Wizard Sliders, a Wizard-themed burger restaurant in the most touristy area of Bamborough near the waterfront, the Wizard herself is seated at one of the tables under a big umbrella. Despite the big umbrella, she's still wearing her massive hat: Double shade from the setting sun. Sitting on the table is a small wizard-themed drink with little lightning bolts sticking out of the blue liquid.

  • 8:00pm, Far Haven: Social media is quick to add the #wizardsighting hashtag to posts made by officers at the police station in Far Haven. The Wizard is seated up on the rooftop ledge of the police station, legs dangling over the third floor edge, surrounded by fireflies sparkling in the night. All a hero has to do is tell an officer they'd like to go up to talk to the Wizard and they'll be escorted to the elevator to the roof. Up you go, heroes!

"Why don't you just say who it is if you know? What is the point of keeping it secret. Is it the Protector?" he asks, noting that he's the one person she left out of the list of us. And then she springs that philosophy 101 question on him, and he could not roll his eyes any harder then he does right now. He almost turns around at the automatic motion of it. He can't stand this kind of attitude, like she has so much distance on him and can't be bothered to close it.

"Do you remember me? I met someone in a hat like that," he gestures at her big hat, "and they asked me if I wanted to help the world. That was you?"

Matilda Hamilton looks significantly less put together than she normally does. After showering away the absurd mix of smells that seemed to stick to her, she felt too tired to assemble a complete outfit with accessories- she's opted for a simple cotton dress with only a ruffle at the hem for decoration, sandals, and only her trademark goggles and white gloves for accessories. Her hair's fluffy and frizzy from the humidity, and she'd normally be too ashamed to be seen like this-- but she's hungry, and when she envisioned food, she automatically teleported to.... this abomination.

It's too much. It's far too much. Matilda Hamilton has endured a lot of things today, but this-- this is where she draws the line! She storms up to the umbrella shaded table, her cheeks flushing bright scarlet (from sunburn, or blush? there's a lot of new freckles there) as she throws both hands down on the table, the very image of dramatics and distress.

"Eating at your own themed restaurant?!"

Garrot's not the only one trying to get ahold of someone- Matilda Hamilton is also nearby, pacing back and forth with her cellphone pressed close to her face. She doesn't look nearly as chipper, though- nor is she pouting like she usually would when troubled. And right as she finally gives up and hangs up-- Garrot laughs at something, and holy shit, she totally jumps, fumbles, and drops her phone completely.

She whips around, petite gloved hands balled, ready to fight someone-- on the phone with their family or not. "Must you?!"

"Hm," Luka frowns. "Well I know Gyre, Olivia and Rory are okay. I'm sure everyone else is, or we'd have heard something by now... I think." He tries not to let his uncertainty show too much. Nothing was certain, after all.

"Where are you headed? I'm trying to get back to Craydon to get a change of clothes. Don't exactly want to be seen like this."

Luka grimaces at the idea of the public showers as he takes Olivia's arm.

"There has to be something better than that. I don't trust that there won't be illicit photos showing up online somewhere, afterward."

"Fun was not the word I'd choose to describe all that," Luka says, tersely.

He invites himself to sit on the ledge near her, but still keeping a relative distance. Unlike the Wizard though, his feet are staying firmly planted on the roof.

"Don't bullshit me. There's no one else who could have been responsible."

Garrot sees this pair of messages slide into his notifications, and he has to double-take. They all had each other's numbers and were in group chats, so... he has to take advantage of this. The whole thing.

TELL THEM TO SAVE ME ONE! 【ノ*✧ω✧】ノ*:・゚✧

How much effort did Garrot put into that one message? Too much. So then he sends a direct text message to Gyre, trusting him to know what to do.

I'll owe you one if you can steal me two. I'm big and hungry.

He is woefully oblivious to Gyre's lack of phone skills. Oops.

[personal profile] daddykong 2019-06-26 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Despite the laughter, Garrot is still pretty stressed out and exhausted. So when he hears someone raise their voice at him, his body whirls around and he's locked onto the source. His fangs are bared, and he's glaring; reacting instead of observing.

"You wanna go?!" It's not until he snarls out the words that he realizes who he's dealing with. Matilda. The hand holding the phone drops to his side as he gasps. The woman on the other end is shouting, clearly displeased. "DAD, what the fuck?!" He does not register her words consciously.

Garrot sees the phone, remembers what she said about her family. And he worries. "M-Matilda! Are... are you okay?" Physically? Emotionally? Personally? His question was almost whispered, and his wide eyes and loosening of his stance makes him look about to snatch her up into a hug.

It sounds like the woman on the phone didn't pick up on the change, because now she's shouting. "Dad I swear, if you look, smell, and act like a stray dog we're sending you to the pound!" Garrot does notice that one, but he keeps the phone at his side and just... smiles sheepishly at Matilda.

Since Garrot is quite engrossed in his video call, it's not until Zafika closes the distance and speaks to him that he notices them. It helps that he's kind of really gross and people are usually keeping their distance.

"Oh! Uh..." He does jump a bit, still a little surprised. "Yeah, I'm fine! I, uh..." Garrot starts to smirk, turning the phone so both himself and part of Zafika are in frame. "Hacked through a monster and all its arms with a sword taller than you!" A beat passes, and he glances towards his phone. "Probably taller than you two, even!"

The two on the phone are clearly unfazed by the boast, but a pair of golden eyes close in on the camera, a manual zoom function. "Primary Caregiver, is that the Snake Knight?!" "Let us talk to the Snake Knight, Legal Guardian!" And then, in unison, "Pleeeeease?" Garrot just sighs, glancing to the ground for a moment before looking at Zafika and shrugging. Youths...

Gail tried very hard not to bring too much sand with him, but what could he do. Not much. He tried to ignore the Wizard to the best of his ability, since she seemed to not have noticed him, maybe he can act like he didn't notice her.

And then she speaks and Gail can feel that flood of nervousness once again. Oh god she could probably kill him right then and there??? Was this how he was going to die?????

"Um. Uh. Good evening, Wizard."

Zafika immediately turns to look at Gyre at his correction, confused but... it's quickly replaced by worry. They can read body language, and reading the undertones of people's voices, and Gyre looks and sounds like he's hurting. That weak smile absolutely isn't helping with their worrying, at all.

"Y-yeah... I, saw some of it... but, Gyre.." They hesitate, and quickly glance around the pretty much abanone spring. "Are you alright?" They speak in a more hushed voice just in case, but it doesn't hide the concern in their voice, not that they're trying to hide it in the first place.

Hearing that three of the other Knights are okay is enough to get Zafika to sigh from relief, because as exhausted as they are, they're still worried about the other Knights. "Thank goodness... everyone was in pairs, and the monsters were weak if you could take them down fast enough, everyone else should be alright too."

"I'm heading back to Craydon as well. It feels like today has lasted forever, I need rest." And a possible visit to the hot springs, but they don't mention it to Luka. Sorry, nothing personal, but even if he's blind, they don't feel like going to a hot spring with him.

Zafika isn't exactly surprised that they managed "sneak up" on Garrot, it's been a long day, and they're not really paying attention to their surroundings either, just enough to not walk into people.

Meaning they don't pay it any mind that he sounds startled, and instead listen to his boasting. Which, probably would be more impressive if they weren't so tiny, but still, a person sized sword is big. They sure wouldn't want one pointed at them.

Only when they register the 'taller than you two' bit, do they realise that Garrot must be talking to his kids, and they decide lower their blindfold to hang around their neck. And yep, there sure are two golden eyes peering at them from the screen of Garrot's phone. They give Garrot an understanding look, before waving briefly at the kids. "Yes, it's me, the Snake Knight. I can talk for a bit, but... I don't want your father to miss his train."

They glance at the still stationed train, it doesn't seem like it'll leave just yet, but better keep an eye on it. And an ear on it too. Just in case.

"Ah," he murmurs, holding a hand up, palm out, as if to comfort them. He still has that weak smile on his face, and it gets a little tighter in this moment.

"I'm... fine. I was reminded of some things, but they're long past." He shrugs very slightly, and waves a hand as if to brush the whole conversation away. He wants to think about other things, and their concern for him is, honestly, unbearable to him in this moment.

"What did you think? About all of that? Did you meet a kid?"

Well he's going to learn because Gyre spends a good twenty minutes trying to figure out why his phone just made such a weird sound. Twice. He actually goes up and asks the receptionist about it eventually, and she gives him a deeply concerned stare before telling him he probably got a text.

Then there's the struggle to remember how to open the screen again. And a further struggle to even figure out how to pull other messages up. By the time he's found the second message, he's halfway to the train station, and he stops in the middle of the sidewalk in frustration.

There's onely 1 for eahc person you can hvae my food

He stares at this message for a moment, before realizing something important: Who is this

"You can't!" he barks, throwing his hands up in the air. "What do you mean, you can't? What's stopping you?"

He sighs and rubs his hands down his face, trying to calm himself down as he uh continues the question barrage, "What were you doing there? Why did you send me away?"

[personal profile] daddykong 2019-06-27 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Unluckily for them both, Garrot ended up taking a quick leap into the ocean during those twenty minutes. This means that when he gets back to his phone, it doesn't seem like it took that long for Gyre to respond. And who looks at timestamps?

Please pig out on the food if you need to, I'll be fine. And I'm you from the future.

Couldn't you tell?

He doesn't want Gyre to go hungry after a day like this! He should eat!!! Garrot has some food in the fridge at his temp house anyway...

[personal profile] daddykong 2019-06-27 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The wave from a badass assassin makes the boys giggle and cheer for a moment, unable to contain their excitement. But with one word, that falls away, and the boys start to lean away from the screen, showing their faces rather than just two of their eyes.

"Not our dad." Garrot himself tenses for a moment, glancing awkwardly at the phone, as if he expects things to devolve. Instead, they shrug it off and are right back to smiling. "We're, uh, kinds fans of your work? The part where you got people the law wouldn't." "Or, uh, the part where a lot of your work helped the greater good." One of the teenage boys looks to Garrot, and laughs awkwardly. He's staring at them. "Not the murder part, though. That's bad."

Garrot just. Facepalms. Starstruck teenage boys are a handful. But then the other twin leans in a bit, grinning ear to ear. "Can you beat Garrot in a fight?!" Hearing this makes the palm attach itself to his face like an alien lifeform, and the doctor just sighs. But there's still a wide, toothy grin poking out from beneath the hand, so at least he's not angry.
