Day 4: Morning
Morning: 6:00am - 12:00noon
[ IRL Timeframe: July 3rd -If any hero was expecting day four to be anything but absolutely bananas, they'd been living in a dream bubble. Fortunately for everyone, they wake up where they fell asleep the previous night. Unfortunately, though, everyone receives a decidely rude awakening at 6:06am.
An earthquake.
No part of the island is safe, everywhere and everything starts shaking and rumbling. Roads split, the train tracks bend, buildings fracture, buildings collapse...
...and bright, glowing blue fissures open up in the ground.
No city is safe from their new feature, but in every single city it's clear that the cracks are coming from a specific source. In Far Haven, the cracks lead west to Craydon. In Bamborough, the cracks lead east to Craydon. In Craydon, though, the cracks lead directly north up the mountain. They gradually narrow the further up the mountain you go, where do they end?
Heroes will, of course, not be able to immediately see this pattern. How are they going to find out about it? Social Media won't be buzzing about it until noon at the earliest!
But that won't be the only thing social media is buzzing about by noon. It looks like Web is nowhere to be found. A concerned local
The Weather
- Eerily still.
- 64°F / 18°C
- Despite the quake, there's a nice breeze.
Prompts:
- 6:06am Earthquake, Everywhere: Every town has fallen victim to an earthquake. The damage is unthinkable. Cars aren't moving anymore, roads and paths are obstacle courses, and everything inside has fallen over. It was a big one! Fortunately the citizens are out almost immediately to begin rescue and repair efforts. No matter where the heroes go, there'll be someone to help, something to do, or help to be offered. Do you need saving, or will you be saving others?
- 7:45am Train Station, Far Haven: Social media is going absolutely crazy. There's a MONSTER here! There's a monster in the train station!! Numerous pictures are posted of a Child-shaped monster with ten eyes instead of a face. Today, however, he's wearing a pair of black athletic shorts, some flip-flops, and a T-Shirt that says "I'm with Stupid" on the front and an arrow that trails around to the back of the shirt where it says "You're Stupid". At the train tracks, he's going one rail tie at a time repairing them to get the tracks straightened and fixed again. What's the deal???
- 08:00am International Cabin of Crepes, Bamborough: As if Social Media wasn't buzzing enough about the monster in Far Haven, it explodes again when the Wizard arrives at ICoC for breakfast. Several servers post that she asked for "the family table" and she invited all the knights and the princess to join her. Breakfast. Her treat. Anyone who comes to visit will find her sitting at the head of the biggest table, sipping a mug of coffee.
- 11:00am Mountain Base, Craydon: [Exploration] Several hikers have returned from up the mountain, reporting that they'd found "strange doors" blocking their path. According to the description they gave, it sounds like the doors can only be opened if one, or more, of the heroes make the climb up the mountain. The cracks go up past the doors, but there's an invisible wall all around the area that stops them from ascending any further. Whatever's going on up the mountain will need some heroic intervention to figure out. Good luck, heroes!

6:06am Earthquake, Everywhere
Re: 6:06am Earthquake, Everywhere, private with Rory
Luckily the house they're staying in survives the earthquake, and once they've gathered their bearings -and things from indoors- they climb up onto the roof to get at least a little bit better look of what's going on. And from what they can see, it's bad. Really bad. There are fissures everywhere, some houses are collapsed, some just fractured, but it's absolute hell. Residents in craydon are quick to start rescue and repair efforts, and they figure they should offer some help.
So, they put on the glasses Garrot gave them, the constant hum confirming that yes, they're working, and they quickly hop down from the roof, ready to head out to help.
6:10am Far Haven
...Only, Far Haven's mostly abandoned, and Matilda's still puny, despite her attempts at training with the others. You don't get swole in three days. So she can be found in the street, barefoot and still in her frilly white nightgown, hair frizzy as she struggles to pull a literal tree out of the street. It's something.

squattingstaying at cracking. After jumping out of bed, she had run to hide underneath a sturdy looking table until the shaking stopped. It was her first ever earthquake, but she had thankfully read enough about them to not panic. After the immediate danger had passed, she went outside to survey the damage. She knows there won't be too many people in Far Haven, but there might be animals trapped... Instead, she sees Matilda. Trying to move a tree.]
Hey... uh. [Once she gets closer and notices what Matilda looks like right now, she raises an eyebrow. The two had never talked before, but the few times Olivia had seen her, the girl looked perfect and sort of... too beautiful to approach? It's kind of refreshing, in a way, meeting her like this.] You okay?
no subject
O-oh! Good morning! [She laughs out of nervousness, sheepishly tugging her goggles down over her eyes. Yes, she sleeps with them on. What of it?]
I think I broke a lamp inside, but I'm okay! Are... you okay? That was a big one!
no subject
I'm Olivia, by the way. [She says, extending a hand for her to shake.] Were you trying to clean up the street? Not many cars pass around here, right? [She's genuinely not sure, since she's only been here two days. It's sad about the tree, but she doesn't see the point of wasting energy moving it if it's only in the way of the Knights that live here.]
no subject
Matilda Hamilton. I was-- I know no one's really here right now, but I was worried if someone did need to get through....
no subject
[She smiles when, as soon as she's said those words, she feels two big hands resting on her shoulders. Behind her stands a female Minotaur, her animal companion! She looks strong enough that she could probably move the tree all on her own but, for the sake of their pride, when Iv gets set to push the tree, she waits for the two ladies to get ready beside her so the three of them can work together.] On the count of three?
no subject
On the count of ---- oneeeeeeee, twooooooooo, [She stretches out the numbers for dramatics.]
no subject
With their strength combined (mostly thanks to, uh, the Minotaur), it doesn't take them too much effort to move the tree out of the way, and once that's done, Iv gives both of them a gentle pat on their heads and starts working on moving other heavy objects out of the way. Olivia herself starts picking up branches that their tree left behind, but not before shooting Matilda a quick smile.] Nice work.
Hmm, I wonder if... do you know if earthquakes are a normal thing here? Should we be worried? [She asks, as if she's not gonna worry anyway. She's worrying about it Right Now.]
no subject
The earthquakes? I'm not sure. But... That? [She gestures to a great glowing crevice in the near distance. Ladies don't point. It's a dramatic swoosh.]
That is most anomalous.

6:20ish
She doesn't know the full details of what's happening as she wakes with a start at the shaking and shattering, but takes in enough to pull a blanket over her head for cover as furnishings fall and the skylights shatter glass all over. The building creaks and tilts under her, more things rolling off counters and slipping off nails to clatter and crash on the floor, and after a few moments it all comes to a tentative, tilted rest.
It's enough that she cautiously looks out, grabs for her bags, and goes to look out the window. There's signs of damage as far as she can see, with alarms going off in various cars and buildings. Checking outside the apartment's door is no better - there's cracks in the floor further down the hallway, with creaking sounds and the occasional falling rafter punctuating ceilings.
Between her own memory, and several panicked moments of consulting the internet, Joanna heads for the bathroom to take cover in the bathtub. In a high floor of a damaged building, trying to leave is as dangerous as staying put. Best to get to something sturdy and take shelter inside, to wait for rescue. And Far Haven may not have fully staffed emergency services, during wizard season... but there's multiple approaches available.
(Personal text)
Hi Matilda, this is Joanna,, Have you gotten any better with your knight power.. Or do you think you remember the way to my home? I could use some help getting to safety, if you can.. Thank you
no subject
Matilda sends off the first text without thinking, amazed by the fact that someone would even think to ask her for help. Thankfully, she remembers that she actually needs to reply properly to offer that help. Manners first, of course-- in everything but her texting style.
。。。ミヽ(。><)ノ i remember!!! c u soon!!!!!
She only takes a moment to run back into her house, finding a pair of boots to tug onto her feet, and to pull her trademarked goggles over her eyes. No time for a real outfit, not when someone's relying on her. Now she just has to try and figure out how to get there-- which is harder than she thought it would be, since she's only appeared there by accident before.
It takes a few tries and about five minutes, but she finally makes it into Joanna's apartment, appearing in the hallway very suddenly. Wow, the place really got it rough. Matilda gapes, muttering to herself "And I thought breaking the lamp was bad--" before pausing, and calling out. "Joanna?"
no subject
Joanna repeats herself in a quick, simple reply, then holds the phone to her forehead as she takes a few shuddering breaths. See that, the knights look out for each other. Whatever's happened through the city hasn't damaged every building the same, and there'll be rescues for those in need.
Despite Matilda's message, it doesn't really occur to Joanna that it'll only be a few minutes. She's halfway through typing up another message explaining the situation when that voice calls out nearby.
"Matilda!" Joanna calls back, surprised, and pockets her phone. "Uh, be careful where you step, the building is... Everything is a little unstable." To say the least. But it's not too unstable for her to push her way up onto her hooves, carefully stepping out of the tub. Even as she moves to the doorway, she says in an apologetic way, "I didn't dare take the stairs, if I could avoid it..."
CRAYDON
By the time he's gotten into town, he's moving with purpose, but there's an unguarded terror just behind his eyes, his body shaking when he's not using it to help people. Here, he's climbing the side of a building with his bare hands to collect a family stuck a couple floors up. Here, he's asked Fen for a long pole to try to lever a slab off concrete off someone trapped underneath. Here, he's standing at the edge of an alley, taking deep breaths to steady himself, running his fingers through his hair over and over again before he runs back out into the street.
He's going to exhaust himself, but he's going to help as many people as he physically can.
no subject
His clothes are dirty and he's scrathed up but that doesn't matter.
He spots Gyre at the edge of an alley, not looking to good and runs to check on the other Knight. They hadn't really conversed much after the other had helped him the first evening here, but the comfort the other had offered him back then had been of great help to him. So seeing him looking so frazzled concerns him.
no subject
"Are you okay?" he asks, his voice shaking just slightly. He clears his throat roughly, looking away for a moment. He's a little more calm when he says, "Did you stay safe yesterday?"
no subject
He's quickly signing to Gyre after catching his breath a little. He might have gotten a little more stamina in the past few days but overall it was still average at best.
"I'm fine, I happened to be outside when the earthquake hit and I'm kind of used to them though I've never been around for anything of this scale. I...stayed in the cabin for a while but..."
He hesitates, fear, doubt, uncertainty whirling in his eyes before he shakes his head vigorously. No, now's not the time, not when he was here to check up on Gyre.
"Never mind me, are you okay? I spotted you and...you really didn't look so good..." Even without a voice to convey the emotion, the concern was more than obvious in Seth's eyes.
no subject
"I'll be fine. I don't like these cracks," he says, managing to sound far more confident then he looks, and his attention shifts past Seth towards the city behind him. "There are people who need help. Do you want to work together?"
no subject
"I'm with you on the cracks...if I see them again after today it'll be too soon. Yesterday was quite enough thank you very much.", he signs quickly, without really thinking much about it.
The suggestion to work together surprises him a little. However, it's a good idea. They'll likely be of more help working together than alone, besides, that way he could keep an eye out for Gyre. He clearly wasn't as okay as he pretended to be, but clearly didn't really want to talk about it either. A decision Seth could understand.
So he nods, before signing. "Sounds good. We can't do everything but let's at least try to get everyone safe, or at least as safe as we can in this situation anyway."
no subject
"Yeah, let's go. I think I heard someone down this way," he says, gesturing out towards the road for a beat before he starts towards a pile of rocks blocking a different alley.
no subject
Still, he makes a point to briefly, gently place a hand on Gyre's arm as the move towards the rocks blocking the other alley, looking at him with a soft, small smile, and an understanding expression.
He would not push Gyre to talk, but if he wanted to at some point, Seth would be happy to listen. He himself hoped someone would do that for him at a later point in time. He knew he wouldn't be able to hold back the myriad of emotions that had been on his mind since yesterday and had even robbed him of sleep, which showed pretty badly as very dark bags under his eyes, forever...but he would hold on to them long enough to not hurt anyone by suddenly unloading on them. He'd quickly been reminded that that wasn't the correct way about things thanks to Zafika.
no subject
He doesn't say anything to that effect though, turning away from him as they approach the rubble. Behind the rocks, there's the soft sound of someone crying, and that's clearly got his attention now as he shouts, "We're going to get you out!"
He begins to grab one of the smaller stones, tugging it out and bringing it out onto the street. He glances quickly at Seth as he moves. "We need to clear this."

6:06am onward Craydon
What he has been doing, is walking around the island, well Craydon more specifically, as he was determined to be as far away from Bamborough as possible at the moment.
When the earthquake hits, he reacts kind of on autopilot and goes for the most open space, laying down so he won't fall, closing his eyes and curling up as small as possible, used to the frequent earthquakes that plague Tellan but damn if this isn't far bigger than any of them.
When he opens his eyes when the shaking finally stops they go wide in horror at the damage done. And in terror upon seeing the cracks. What had happened with the cracks during yesterday's horrors had been a very unpleasant and terrifying experience.
Maybe it's the stress, the lack of sleep, the conflicted feelings he's still battling with due to yesterday's time travel shenanigans, but Seth shuts down emotionally. He can't handle all the feelings inside him now so he will have to do so later.
People are calling for help.
And so he's going to try and help.
Re: 6:06am Earthquake, Everywhere
Her powers are somewhat useless against the force of the earth, but she spends the whole morning digging and hauling people out of the rubble. She doesn't even think to look at social media.
