Welcome to the Test Drive! In this post, you'll be able to interact with others to get a feeling for your character. All threads below will be considered non-canon unless otherwise stated. Multiple different scenarios are available, you are welcome to post multiple comments with different scenarios each or post one single comment containing different scenarios.
i n s t r u c t i o n s • Post with your character (note character name in the subject). • Other people reply to you by picking a number from the scenarios in the subject line. • Have fun!
o p t i o n s 01 • AWAKENING. Your character has just woken up, or turned a corner, or blinked and now their animal companion has joined them. How do they react? What were they doing beforehand? How are they going to handle the news that they're a knight now? For this thread, you'll be threading with your animal companion. (You must provide the thread-start for this option)
02 • ON THE PLANE. You were promised a seat on a plane out to the island but it looks like you and another Knight (or the Princess) were double-booked! Chat it up with your fellow fighter, commentary from your animal companions is optional.
03 • THE ISLAND. You've just landed and you're somewhere on the island. One of your fellow companions is nearby and they sure do look like they've just landed with all their luggage still in tow. Or they're already wearing an Island tourism shirt. Or who even knows, but you're both here!
04 • COFFEE SHOP. All you wanted was a Latte, or a Frappuccino, to consider why you're here on the island and what you were going to do until the first monster showed up... Instead the barista called for "Drink for the Knight" or "Drink for the Princess" oh shit, but this isn't your drink! Or maybe it is your drink but someone else is there! Why would two knights have gone for coffee at the same time? Or did you get confused for or with the Princess? Come on, man, there are only so many unicorn frappes in the world.
05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort. Go for a walk, go outside, looks like you're not alone in your discomfort. New island housing is wild!
06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. First night on the island is rough. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help?
07 • BEACH EPISODE. You're on an island!! There's beaches everywhere, there are pools on every street. Endless water opportunities, chances to fool around and relax before things get serious. You're not the only good guy to have had this thought! What are you both up to?
08 • LOCAL FOOD. You've been dying to eat X, a dish that you've seen numerous other knights eat on TV. Now YOU'RE a knight (or the princess) and you're eating it yourself, there are kids at home that'll be excited to eat this food because they saw you eating it! You might even get a commercial spot to advertise this food when you get home. Awesome! Except someone else is here, what if they get the commercial spot? Huh.
09 • DENNY'S. It's 3am and you've arrived at a Denny's. You're almost certain that there's not a Denny's on the island and you're not even sure you walked in here? But it is what it is and the server is already bringing you a menu and taking your drink order as one of your fellow allies slips into the booth across from you. Have you met them before, or are they new to you? Your animal companion is here, too, and they're ordering something as well.
10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario. |
CRASH COURSE IN DWRP
Terrence Torrence
02.) On the Plane
Goodness. When I was promised first class seats I was expecting an electronic massage and cup holder, not a complimentary lap to sit on!
[Seriously, though, how the hell did this happen? Knight flying here, people. One that could probably buy this entire airport besides. All considered, though, Terrence seems more amused than anything by the mix-up as he approaches the seat thief.]
Could I trouble you to double-check your ticket..?
06.) Pensive
[Terrence is so busy pacing that he doesn't even notice his fellow knight enter the common room. It's only once they either make a noise or he gets about a foot away from running into them that they have his attention. Obviously he's been at this for a while, completely consumed by... Something.]
Ah... Apologies.
[After a beat, he begins to study the other's face for a few moments before giving them a somewhat lethargic finger gun. The gesture is rather ambiguous, as is his tone.]
Say, you don't have any expectations of or emotional attachment to me, correct..? Let me dump my insecurities on you for a bit.
07.) Beach Episode
[While the contrast against his stark black hair and fur makes Terrence's paleness clear, it becomes elevated to an entirely new echelon on the beach. 'Ghostly' wouldn't be inaccurate, though he himself would prefer something more flowery like 'ivory' or 'alabaster'. It's likely he'd be reflecting the sunlight and blinding everyone entirely if not for his sandy perch beneath an immense, nearly equally bright yellow umbrella. His swimsuit is a simple black speedo that compliments his previously mentioned fur well and makes clear the lagomorph has nothing to hide.
Terrence peers over a pair of enormous sunglasses at the approaching knight with a playful look.]
I'm not going to lie, I only voted for a day at the beach so I could check everyone out. So far?
...Nice.
09.) Denny's
Why the hell are we at Denny's, the participation trophy of restaurants?
[It isn't disgust or disdain in Terrence's voice, no, more like... Pity. He stares a hole in one spot of the menu for what seems like several minutes, clearly not actually reading a thing on it.]
...Raspberry tea, please.
Terrence Torrence here comes Seth
The "seat thief" in question jumps slightly at the sound, having been rather engrossed in making anxious motions to himself, turning to look at Terrence with...a pretty blank face with the only thing showing his surprise being his very very slightly widened eyes, which honestly with his usually half-lided and downcast eyes probably looked more like blank stare.
Though he hastily took out his ticket to double-check like he'd been asked to, mouth opening just a sliver as he realized that his seat was actually across from where he was currently sitting.
He got up quickly, moving his bag on the otherside of the table, making a few hand sings to apologize as he moved to sit in his correct spot, directly across from Terrence. Perhaps strangely for Terrence he didn't seem to recognize him at all.

Her freckles are already multiplying, and they were barely visible under her makeup when she landed. And she physically recoils when Terrance speaks to her, leaning back dramatically like he's physically wounded her with his comment.]
Awhmygawd you did not just say that out loud!
[She clutches the volleyball she's holding closer to her chest like it might make the red polka dot bikini she's wearing more modest (it doesn't). And in true Matilda fashion she's gone full out extra with heart shaped red sunglasses over her eyes and... she's still wearing those dumb rose tinted goggles over top her head. At least they might actually have a purpose on the beach.]

Red Leaves Gyre on the Grey Lake
01. Awakening
[Gyre fell asleep late last night, and he wakes up late because of it. The afternoon sun hits him fully in the face before he blinks and turns over in his sleeping bag. He wants a few more minutes. Just a little more, please. He knows he needs to hunt today, and he needs to finish his journey to his little home to check up on it, and he always hates meditating too late in the day, but just a minute or two more]
[He can't. Now that he's awake, he can feel sweat pooling in the small of his back and one sharp blade of grass digging into his neck. He sighs deeply, a harsh rattle in his throat, and he forces himself up sitting, still wrapped tight in his sleeping bag. Give him a second, Fen. He'll blink the sleep out of his eyes soon]
05. Discomfort
[There is no fucking way he's sleeping in a bed tonight. He laid down for about thirty seconds before his back started hurting. The cushions are too soft and he hates the pure luxury of it all. Who needs a bed like that? Who needs three pillows for a single head!]
[So he scrabbled together the pajamas the Wizard provided him, and now there is a wild elf loitering under the blue magic streetlamps out in front of whatever hotel he got shoved into. He's listening to crickets chirp and pacing, walking through the hotel's little garden path. And then doing it again. And again. Maybe he'll just sleep out in the flowerbeds tonight. That's a thing that's totally reasonable to do, right?]
07. Beach Episode
[Hey! It's beach time! Gyre doesn't get to see the beach very often, so he's taking the best advantage of it he can right now. Which is to say, he's laying in the sand, just out of reach of the waves. He's either wearing very small shorts or absolutely nothing at all beside his collar depending on what you want this scene to be. Either way, he's covered in tattoos and there are some pretty bad scars in his shoulder and his stomach. His legs are spread wide, his arms stretched up over his head, his whole body sprawled as wide as he can. He just looks like he's melting delightedly in the sunshine basically someone definitely needs to come mess with him]
Or any of the others are good too!
Re: Red Leaves Gyre on the Grey Lake
Low and behold though, Gyre wasn't actually the only one outside. Seth was there too...along with one of his about human sized puppets who he was anxiously signing to, and then moving the puppets hands to sign back.
To someone like Gyre who actually knew sign language the conversation was going about as follows: "I can't just kick them out of the bed! They claimed it the moment we got here, besides you know what a tantrum they'll throw if they have to sleep anywhere but on a plush bed!" "Seth you're a goddamn knight now, you need to sleep if you're going to survive this. Marion will just have to settle for the sofa." "But I could sleep on the sofa too..."

Seth Samara
01. Awakening
Seth had been working yet another new puppet, though at least it was a commission this time, because what else does he really even do this sad young man. So he'd been very very absorbed in it and so understandably when he after blinking Qus is just suddenly there he does what any reasonable person does. Jumps back startled and spooked and screams though there is no actually sound due to him being mute, ending up falling flat on his ass, the chair he'd been sitting on now fallen over.
02. On the Plane
Why was this happening? Why him? Why couldn't he just not have been chosen as a Knight and stayed inside the comfort and safety of his home?
Instead of that he's now on the flight to the Island, trying to focus on writing down the answers for the questionare, not that any of them actually describe him, as he's answering as if he was one of his many puppets, mostly Marion but there were a lot of others in the mix too.
Except he's struggling because even though he doesn't usually get sick on car rides or flights or such, his nervousness and anxiety are making him queasy.
03. On the Island
Welp, he's here now. Of course when he first landed he immediately decided that he couldn't do this and tried to get back on the plane that had flown him there but too late, the plane was gone. And now he's just standing there with his luggage that consists mostly of large caskets containing his many, many emotional support puppets. Well except the one his holding tightly to his chest.
06. Pensive
Welcome to stress hour. It's the first night and the stress of everythign that's been happening has finally really set in for Seth. He was first pacing in his room but after "complaints from his puppets" for being distracting, he relocated outside, and is now pacing there, making quick handsings in front of himself, his version of muttering.
Or come at me with any of the other ones, I'm not picky.

"You look like you need a hand!" Garrot shouts the words as he starts an approach, intent on getting answers with a smile. The big guy's obviously not hired help since he's in a suit with an outdoors backpack slung over his shoulder and a rolling suitcase lazily dragging behind him.
"That's, uh... a lot of stuff for one person." He laughs awkwardly, eyes darting to the caskets. Don't ask what's inside. Don't ask what's inside! It's rude! "How can I help you?"

You've gone and knocked it all over. [ As they say it, they're already righting things on Seth's desk. Any tools and puppet implements that were dropped or jostled get righted, placed in perfectly straight positions on the table. After taking a moment to look over the newly organized table, Qus hops down onto the floor. ]
You've got to keep it together. [ As they say it, they're standing Seth's chair up again and giving it a little nudge to make sure it rolls. There, chair fixed and not on its side. Good as new. ]

Here comes anxious boy Seth
Seth was struggling at what to do, as when gotten his Unicorn Frappucino, mainly because Marion would bitch at him if he didn't try it now that he had the chance, except his had come with a cookie even though he hadn't paid for it. He'd been anxiously wondering if it'd be okay to just start sipping it anyway, when he heard Garrot shout to the barista and looking dejected...with an Unicorn Frappucino in hand.
Oh boy. Of all the people to get his drinks mixed with...
He very hesitantly started to approach Garrot with his own Unicorn Frappucino in hand, swallowing a bit nervously when he showed it to Garrot, cookie horn and all.
"I think we may have had our orders mixed up." Came a very monotone and rather deep sound from his phone.

Haizea
1) AWAKENING
It had started out as such a lovely morning.
Haizea had come down to the communal kitchen that morning and found not one, not two, but ALL SEVEN of the kids she was currently looking out for waiting for her. The youngest was about 11 and hurting, the oldest 17 and on track to go to university. One of them had made a huge stack of pancakes, which Haizea was thankful for since she didn't have a single clue how to make them herself.
Halfway through the morning, her second in command, a man named Reggie who'd been part of her gang since they were kids, suddenly burst into the kitchen, looking panicked, and Haizea sits up very straight indeed.
"Zea, there's uh. In the lobby, there's. There's a dragon." He finally manages, and Haizea feels her blood run cold.
"Which one are they here for?" She asks, quickly trying to think if there's a way, any way, she can get her kids out and away from all this.
"Zea....... it's you. They want you."
And Haizea is not sure she's ever felt more surprised in her entire life. Her? The dragon wants her? Why? Why now? But she doesn't have long to question things before the dragon follows Reggie into the kitchen.
2) ON THE PLANE
To anyone unfortunate enough to be assigned seat 7A, or even 7B or 7C, you'll have to deal with a very sleepy Haizea who has currently sprawled out across all three seats. It's kind of impressive actually, she's not especially tall but is managing to take up a stupendous amount of space. And if you were to get close enough to her to smell without touching her, you'd definitely catch a whiff of alcohol on her breath.
The last hurrah of a party her gang threw her before she had to leave was QUITE an experience, you can probably catch the aftermath of it on the local news at 6pm that night.
7) BEACH EPISODE
Literally anyone at the beach will have a hard time missing Haizea. The moment she gets close enough to see the shore, she takes off towards it at a sprint, hollering loudly. Once she gets a bit close, she starts ripping off her clothes, first her jacket, then kicks off her boots and has to kind of hop out of her jeans. In one surprisingly careful moment, she pulls the ribbon out her hair, tucks it into the pocket of her jacket, and then immediately runs directly into the ocean.
This is 100% why she literally always wears a one piece swimsuit under her jeans and jacket, lord she loves to swim. Pools are fun, but the ocean is her favorite. As soon as it's deep enough, she dives in and stays underwater for a surprisingly long amount of time before surfacing quite far out to sea. She stays out there for at least 20 minutes or so before she lets the waves carry her back to the shore and she washes up on the beach, just laying in the surf, breathing heavy but smiling widely.
no subject
When she let herself wash up on the beach, she ended up washing up very near where Seth was...actually playing with the sand? Making little houses and such from it, though occasionally just drawing all kind of flowers in the sand.
He was wearing swim shorts, but was also still wearing a T-shirt. He was also for once so distracted in enjoying himself in his little 'bubble' that he didn't even notice Haizea washing up.
He'd been very hesitant to come here at first, but he was surprisingly comfortable now that he'd found a quieter spot. Why'd he stopped going to the beach anyway?

Web
[3. The Island]
Being a native, Web didn't really need an airplane to get to the island. Probably for the best; they'd rather have solid ground under their hooves if they were going up that high, thank you very much.
However, not all of the Knights came from the island itself. Everyone knew that! So when they got the word that some of their fellows were arriving, they made their way to the airport, weird disheveled alarm bird in tow. (They never called the rooster that to its beak, of course, but that's what it was to Web.)
They might've underestimated the amount of people there, though. They're still not that comfortable around that many people in one place, so instead of waiting in the airport proper, they're outside in the sun, waiting. When they see someone else with an animal, they wave one fuzzy arm in the air like a goof, hoping it'll get their attention.
[5. Discomfort]
Web is not used to cities. Web lived most of their life in the woods, and was still adjusting to living in a small town after that little... incident...made goat herding non-viable for them. Being this far away from nature for this long is making them a bit antsy.
Climb-the-walls antsy, even.
Because this evening, that's exactly what they're doing to try to calm down: they're climbing up a slightly older, near-vertical brick wall. Oh, did I mention that they're doing this seemingly without much effort? Sure, they're keeping themselves steadied with one hand on a stone above them, but the fact is they're walking up a goddamn wall like it's an easy platforming section in a video game...
5 obvi
"What the fuck?" The doctor's words are... loud, even by his standards. Luckily, he seems to catch himself before he keeps shouting. Garrot squints his eyes a bit, and sees that the figure is... probably on two legs? Doesn't mean much all things considered, so instead he calls out in a more nighttime-appropriate voice.
"...Are you the first monster? Are you the first monster, and lost?" He blinks a few times. This is weird. "Have you forgotten about gravity?"

[For most, a day at the beach means a day of fun in the waves, sipping cold drinks and relaxing. But for Luka, it's an opportunity for career advancement. Naturally, he could only be seen at the best beaches, and any beach worth it's salt is always occupied by lurking paparazzi hoping for those coveted, sexy A-lister bikini shots (or embarrassing, unsexy ones-- those sell too, and often for more).
For the occasion, Luka's arrived fashionably late in over-the-top couture sunglasses and with a small entourage in tow. He's heard rumors that some of the chosen Knights will be here today -- and he's come looking to "network". He's currently standing at the shore line conspicuously posing when he's alerted to the presence of a Knight, and makes his approach with a friendly wave.]
05 • DISCOMFORT
[Luka's retreated to the roof of the hotel. He's leaning against the brick structure, anxiously smoking a cigarette. The sounds of the bustling city night life below are calming, but it's still not enough to shake the discomfort that's plagued him for hours now.
He sighs and stubs his cigarette out with his boot, startled to hear someone else climbing the stairs to the roof.]

Discomfort
Rory Honeycomb
The news that there was a tiger walking around reached Rory before the tiger did, while she was browsing the quaint marketplace of her village. After excited 'oh my gosh, where?!?'s and shaking several sheeple's shoulders so that they would tell her more, she turned her head, and oh. The tiger was right there. Rory let out a loud squeal. The sherson (sheep person) next to her nearly fainted.
"Oh, wow!! You're... S... Sefaq, right? What are you doing here?? Is there a knight in the village? Where are they, I need to talk to them right now!"
06 • PENSIVE.
As hyped as Rory was for this whole knight business, she... found herself feeling oddly empty. Not anxious, no - that doesn't feel like something's missing, just that something's wrong. She tossed and turned in her bed until she decided she'd had enough and got up to wander around the resort area. She had to get to the bottom of this if she wanted to sleep tonight, but she wasn't going to be introspective enough to do it without talking to someone.
10 • WILDCARD.

Zafika
Zafika had been awake for who knows how long already, just laying in the rather poor and uncomfortable excuse of a bed in their cell, listening in on what the guards down the hall were talking about, and in general anything they could listen to and zone out, to hopefully get some more sleep. There wasn't much they could do in their cell after all, and they weren't allowed to join the other prisoners in the courtyard, so they were locked there. Just when they thought they could fall back to sleep, they heard slithering coming from their cell. Wait. Slithering? No, that shouldn't... nothing should be able to get into their cell, at least not without th guards raising a huge ruckus. They sat up swiftly, the metal handcuffs and the chain attached to them making a jangling sound, and they turned their head to the side to properly face the room. "Who's there...?"
4. Coffee Shop
Zafika had managed to get their coffee without problems, most of the staff were aware about basilisks' Stone Eyes ability, so they'd been able to check the menu for the place, and had ended up taking the biggest cup of warm tea they could find in hopes of warming up. Now they were sitting in a sofa corner of the coffee shop, their teacup held between their hands to warm them up as they enjoyed the white noise of the coffee shop. They hadn't been around people in so long, it was nice to get to hear casual, friendly chatter around them. Of course they did hear people whispering about them in the closest tables, but they could ignore that, they were used to it well enough by now.
5. Discomfort
Zafika groaned as they found themselves unable to sleep, shivering even underneath the extra blankets they had grabbed. They were so cold, why was the hotel room so cold? They had even turned up the heat in there, but they were still shivering. Eventually they gave up on trying to sleep, and grabbed their blindfold, cloak and bag as they got up from the bed, tying the blindfold over their eyes before they opened the door of their hotel room, stashing the key card to their bag. Well, if they couldn't sleep, they could at least wander around. So, they headed down the hallway, feeling around with their tail to avoid walking into anything or anyone.
(or hit me up with the other prompts if you want to!)
4. Coffee Shoppe
And then they sat across from Zafika seeming to not have noticed them at all.

Olivia Walkyr
[Olivia's long blonde hair was flowing behind her as she ran, big mischievous grin wrinkling her button nose as she looked back at the three men running after her. They had good reason to chase her, of course, considering she was escaping with their money-filled briefcase. The girl didn't go so hungry as to have to resort to petty thievery anymore, but she did get a kick out of stealing from the criminals and generally shady people that lived in her city from time to time.
She ducked into a particularly crowded bar, twirled in between dancing drunks as she heard the men call out for her, and shortly went back out wearing a leather jacket - whose owner was too intoxicated to miss -, pixie short brown hair and hipster glasses over her Greek nose. She smiled smugly as she walked into the nearest alley, briefcase in hand, feeling confident that those three would still be looking for her in there a while. She still looked over her shoulder one more time just in case, but as she did, she walked straight into someone's chest. Someone who definitely hadn't been there before.
Olivia blinked as she slowly looked up, glasses crooked, at the giant, ox-headed humanoid.
She screamed.]
04 ► Coffee Shop
[Her jaw clenched as she heard the barista call for the Knight. Stupidly enough, she didn't think the news would spread around so fast - or that people would recognize her, for that matter. She made a mental note to switch up her appearance any time she went out from now on as she approached the counter to find an... unicorn frappe?]
Oh, um... excuse me but, this isn't what I ordered.
07 ► Beach episode
[Olivia discovered that running on the beach is a great exercise. Her legs are killing her now, but it was worth it.
She's currently sitting on the sand, watching the calm waves roll. Despite the hot weather, she's still wearing a long-sleeved shirt, with her tail wrapped around her waist and well hidden under it, as per usual.]
Never thought I'd miss the city. [She lets out a sigh as she leans back, trying to relax.]

I dunno, doesn't smell as much like smog and piss out here. [ A beat passes, and he's raising an eyebrow. ] I take it you're not from around here? [ As if he, a seven foot tall, tattoo-covered man looks like he's a local. ]
